Who is it against, does anyone know?

They are up 1 1/2 on the Twins and have 2 left with them then 3 with the Indians this weekend, giving them 161 games.

I don't see anything on the MLB schedule page.

I was looking at this early tonight. It's always intrigued me to see the possibility of a team play their last game on Sunday in one city, a makeup on Monday in another city, then a one-game playoff the next day in another city, and then a playoff game the next day in another city.

Now, this cannot happen to the Sox since Sunday, Monday and Tuesday would all be in Chicago against 3 different teams (but hey, that's crazy enough) and then a fourth game in Tampa against the fourth team in four days.

Not that I really care, but if this were to happen I think MLB should step in and make the Rays/White Sox or Twins (that's most likely what it will be) series start on Thursday instead of giving the Angels the choice of when to start against the Red Sox.

I really don't feel like digging up an old thread so I'll just put it here.

Griffey since coming to the Sox: .248/.333/.345/.678 with a 78 OPS+. That's before a home today, but still, that wouldn't make much of a difference. For comparison, he had a .245/.355/.432/.787/103 OPS+ with Cincinnati.

It's a deadline deal that didn't really work out for the Sox, yet they've pretty much maintained their positioning to make the playoffs.

By contrast, the Brewers acquired CC, who has been fantastic, yet the Brewers have *still* lost a ton of playoff ground.

I'm always fascinated by the deadline deals, how much emphasis everyone puts on them, and then watching whether they really make a difference or not. Many times, they don't.

Arguably the two biggest deadline deals were Sabathia and Dunn, and it appears as though both teams will be at home watching the playoffs.

We can hope. :yahoo: :yahoo:

Good point, but I think Dunn was the 4th biggest deal behind Sabathia, Manny and Harden/Gaudin

Milwaukee fans shudder to think where they'd be this season without CC right now.

Although I'm sure they'd take comfort in the fact that they would have LaPorta.

In hindsight, I'd probably agree. In measuring what each player brought to their respective teams before the moves were made, I still think Sabathia and Dunn were arguably the two biggest deadline deals.

The key word in my last post was "arguably", btw.

So, let's argue.

True. Although if they don't make the playoffs, they basically lost LaPorta for nothing. And the deal is a failure if they don't, since it was a rental specifically to get them to the playoffs.

So, let's argue.

I think at the time they were made, they all were equally important to filling the needs of their teams

Sabathia - Best and most durable pitcher on the market, gave the team a dominant 1-2, and something to fall back on should Sheets get hurt.

Dunn - DBacks biggest issue was power, and Dunn has a crapload of it

Harden - Cubs probably could have won the Central without Harden, but the addition of Harden made them the clear favorites in the NL and legitimized their shot to win it all.

Manny - Awoke a slumbering offense and gave the Dodgers a potent middle of the order bat that took the pressure off the rest of their young offense to step up and be the man.

Impact in terms of how much better teams got because of the trade I'd say Sabathia, Manny, Dunn, Harden upon thinking about it further.

The chances of the makeup game just went down slightly. The Royals have decided to scratch Zach Grienke from his final start of the year. He hasn't been that great, but I sure like the Twins chances a lot better against Duckworth than Grienke. I still think that the Sox have to play that final game against the Tigers, but this lowered the odds a bit.

Duckworth...as in Brandon Duckworth??
