A number of years ago I was living in Indianapolis and was at a Bulls-Pacers playoff game in Indy. Some friends and I went out to smoke a cigarette at half time, and I look up and Eddie Vedder was standing there by himself smoking. No entourage, no guards, no nothing-just hanging out like everyone else. I know hes not exactly the biggest star in the world, but to see him just hanging out minding his own business was pretty cool coming from a rock star. After I realized it was him I really wanted to ask for his autograph, but as no one was bothering him (he was dressed very casually/run-down and I dont think many others even realized it was him) I decided he probably didnt get many "normal" moments and just left him alone. Just seemed like a pretty down-to-earth guy, especially compared to others with half his fame.

You mean you deprived a celebrity of his once-in-a-lifetime chance to meet you? How rude. Seriously, that's very cool; I understand why people want autographs and stuff, but not enough people look at it from the other side, IMO.

Good song; I like the two hundred years line best.

You should have gone up and nonchalantly started up a conversation with him like he was any other person. :)

I've never been a huge Eddie Vedder fan (I like PJ but don't love them), but this song is awesome. Well written.

This pretty much sums up my feeling exactly, about Eddie, PJ, and the song. In fact this song has made me appreciate Eddie's talent a whole lot more.

is eddie vedder relevant anymore?

Why can't people just enjoy the song? What's the rush to be the first person to post a pointless, cynical comment? Good Christ.

Hmmm, re-reading that it sounds familiar. Didn't we have a flame war like 2 years ago about Pearl Jam? Was this a reference to that?

Good Christ, you're right!

Huh guess it was only like 8 months ago. Of course it was CT who started it.

Great, great song. I just see a bar filled of cubs singing "someday we'll go all the way".

And when the day comes for that last winning run, and I'm crying and covered with beer.

I look to the sky and know I was right today.

I just finished an argument with a friend of mine who said, "this song will cost us another 25 years." I can't believe that A) some people really believe in curses (but by now i have to accept that fact) and B) someone could actually find anything in this song that could be seen as a blasphemic move such as having Bernie Mac in the booth or some of the others (if you are someone who buys into curses that is). I just wanted to see if anyone else had run across people who have made comments like this.
