And with that, anyone be interested in doing awards here to show our moral superiority to the BBWAA? I know there's the IBA that quite a few people around here participate in, but it'd be fun to see what we go with compared to the writers. And it's always fun to see the one out of nowhere vote that shows up on the IBA like when Yhency Brazoban was getting votes a few years back in IBA.

That sounds like the kind of thing I'd do, but it'd be difficult to eliminate the Cubs bias present in the majority of the board.

You get 10 spots on an MVP ballot.

Ryan Howard would not show up on my MVP ballot.

Wouldn't put him 7th or 8th on account of the "loading up on the shoulders" effect?

I hear "you have to be on a contenting team" qualifier way to often

If Ryan Howard was my starting 1st baseman and I could trade him even up for Albert Pujols, I'd take that deal in a heartbeat

Pujols has had a better 6 months of baseball no matter how hot Howard is for the last 5 weeks of the season

If you have to be on a contending team to win the MVP, then Banks has 2 awards to return and Dawson 1

Go Cubs

1. Albert Pujols

2. Ryan Howard

3. David Wright

4. Aramis Ramirez

5. Carlos Delgado

6. Manny Ramirez

7. Chase Utley

8. CC Sabathia

9. Geovany Soto

10. Lance Berkman

La Russa is obviously trying his best to help Pujols earn the award this year.

Aaron Miles and Adam Kennedy both starting in the corner OF spots, Felipe Lopez batting cleanup, Mark Johnson and Cesar Izturis playing at all, and they're still leading due to Pujols 3-run blast.

Its Pujols period. His number are far superior to anyone else. Look at the Cards lineup and tell me if they are in the playoff hunt into Sept (like they were) without Pujols..... Howard is setting the K record and he has more supporting bats in his teams lineup. Has to be PUJOLS.

Howard hasn't even been the best player on his own team this season, let alone in the NL. I'd rather give the MVP to Utley than Howard.

FWIW, I'd go:

1. Pujols

2. Berkman

3. Utley

4. Hanley

5. Wright

6. Aramis

7. Santana

8. McCann

9. Holliday

10. Chipper

Cy Young:

1. Lincecum

2. Santana

3. Hamels

4. Sheets (may drop the last week)

5. Dempster

Just because you have a better supporting cast, does not mean you shouldn't win MVP, btw.

If it wasn't for steroid head Bonds, Pujols would've won in 204/2005, when he has the best supporting cast in the NL.

It's annoying how everybody is jumping on the Ryan Howard bandwagon just because he has pretty home run and RBI numbers. He's a first baseman with an OPS in the .800's. Give me a break.

Him and Derrek Lee are comparable in value

Pujols is in a different stratosphere

Exactly.

Here's BP's VORP for this year in the NL:

Pujols: 87.4

H. Ramirez: 78.1

Berkman: 72.4

C. Jones: 72.1

Reyes: 62.0

Wright: 60.2

Holliday: 58.7

Utley: 58.0

Beltran: 52.9

Howard is at 31.5. DLee is 29.6.

Howard isn't even the MVP of his team, Utley is. Albert will probably win the award, but Manny deserves some consideration. Without his presence in the lineup, the Dodgers don't come close to post-season.

Agreed on Manny. I think he should scratch the Top 5 easily. He's been unreal since coming over. I thought his production was a gonna fall off a cliff moving to Dodger Stadium, too. He's silenced a lot of critics. Not deserving of the award, obviously, but definitely deserving of consideration.

amazing what a great player can do when he actually, you know, tries.
