Remember a couple of years ago when Howard won it and Pujols made the claims that you should be in playoffs to be MVP. Even so I would still vote for Albert this season.

Albert should have 3 or 4 MVP's by now, and it's an absolute travesty that he doesn't.

Without him, the Cardinals are a total non-factor this year. And in 2006. If there was ever really a one man gang, Pujols is it.

He's the most disrespected respected player ever.

What years exactly?

Because outside of the Howard year. There is no way you could say Pujols deserved through in 2002-2004 and he got a honorary one in the year Lee should've won it.

espn listed some of their top nl candidates this year

pujols

howard

delgado

sabathia

manny ramirez

I heard somebody on ESPN say that K-Rod should be the AL MVP. That's right. Not the Cy Young winner but the MVP.

i wonder what will have to happen for everyone to stop being surprised at the idiotic crap people on ESPN say

back in April, Kruk predicted Ryan Zimmerman would hit 50 HRs and during the season i think it was Destrade who said Halladay had the best chance of any active pitcher of a 20 K game

i thought either of those would do it, but apparently not

Maybe this is not right to say this..

I dont mean this is a jerk way at all. Please everyone don't take this the wrong way..

Kruk also had Derrek Lee for his MVP this year and he was going to hit 45 home runs.

Lee has had a pretty decent year, but not MVP worthy.

which years? he certainly didn't deserve it in 2001-04; barry bonds was easily the best player in the nl each of those season. he won it in 2005, but derrek lee had a better season. in 2006 he was probably a little better than howard, but his team didn't make the playoffs and howard did have an awesome year, so that could've gone either way. last year he had a bit of an off year; there were a handful of guys who deserved it more than him. so really, you can say that he deserved it probably only one year. blame barry bonds' steroid abuse for him not winning 4 mvp's, not the voters.

ted williams only won 2 mvp's and probably should've won like 8. he didn't win the mvp when he hit over .400 in 1941 (with a 1.288 ops!) and didn't win it the next year when he won the triple crown.

Pujols is almost too good. I look at his stats and just go meh because he's doing what he always does. Play very good baseball. I almost think that his consitently good seasons keeps him from winning the MVP award.

Really, for the NL MVP, it should come down to Manny Ramirez, CC Sabathia, Rich Harden, Casey Blake, or Joe Blanton. Those are the only players that make sense.

Randy Wolf? Luis Ayala?

They were on NL teams before. NL players are inferior across the board.

My vote is for Casey Blake. Without him, Manny is nothing.

I don't like rewarding a guy with such a low BA but having 22 more RBI than the next guy and 8 more HR's I think probably should get Howard the award not to mention his team is actually in a playoff race and Pujols isn't. If I vote for a guy not in a playoff race its Hanley Ramirez with a 30-30 season and OBP over .400.

Pujols OPS: 1.106 OPS+ 189

Howard OPS: .872 OPS+ 121

That should clinch it. Plus Howard's 190 K's versus Albert's 52 (!). OK OK, maybe strikeouts should matter that much but look at that huge disparity. Albert hits for plenty of power and he doesn't have to sacrifice bat control to get it.

Albert's such a better ballplayer than Howard I don't even think it's close. I'm saying all of this because I just heard an argument this morning that Howard should get it because he has "loaded Philly on his shoulders and carried them to the playoffs."

Unfortunately that's what they said about Sosa the year he won it too. It's a non argument in my book.

You just said you would give the award to a guy because he has a OBP over .400 right after you argued that the guy with the .335 OBP should get it over the guy with the .461 OBP.

It's annoying how everybody is jumping on the Ryan Howard bandwagon just because he has pretty home run and RBI numbers. He's a first baseman with an OPS in the .800's. Give me a break.

I think Pujols should be a lock this year (dominating in SLG and OPS), but it's probably going to be a close vote since Howard leads the league in HR and RBI. Sabathia and Ramirez could have a claim if they put up these numbers for the whole year, but I can't justify it when they've only played a third of the year in the NL. And where is this Carlos Delgado love coming from? I understand (but disagree with) the media's reasoning for CC, Manny, Howard, and a few others, but Delgado makes absolutely no sense to me.

I have very little respect for the people that vote for these awards. I think they will pick Pujols not because he is obviously better in every important way (except HRs) but because Howard has a low BA.
