Tavaris Jackson, grab some bench.

Gus Frerotte, your week 3 starter for the Vikes.

http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=3593304

Total panic move. To say Gus is definitely the guy for the rest of the season barring injury is just insane. What if Gus completely stinks? What if Gus stinks and you fall out of the playoff hunt? You going to stick with the 37 year old instead of seeing if Tarvaris has made any progress?

Tarvaris has been bad and there's no disputing that. But you commit to him for 3 years, turn the keys over to him last year as a 2nd year player, rave about all of the progress he's making and then pull the plug after two subpar games to start the year? It's not even like he was losing games and turning the ball over. If they would have just opened up the offense and let him fail it would be another story.

I wouldn't be surprised if Gus provides a nice short-term boost. But if he would have just said "Tarvaris is struggling and we want to give him a chance to step back and see what Gus can give us" or something along those lines, that's logical. Instead you completely change course of a multi-year philosophy based on two games.

This just seems like it had to have come from Wilf or someone above Childress.

Bob Sanders out 4-6 weeks!

Here's the link.

Team president Bill Polian said during a taping of his weekly TV show Tuesday night that the league's defensive player of the year could also have arthroscopic "cleanup" surgery on one of his knees while he's recovering from the ankle injury.

"He will be back, that is for sure," Polian told WISH-TV. "At this point we are not sure of the severity, but four to six is the reasonable assumption at this time."

I have to think this is really, really bad news for the Colts defense. Last time they were missing Bob, they were pretty terrible.

They also won the Super Bowl that year.

This is very true. If they struggle badly for 4-6 weeks while he's out, though, they may run the risk of not winning the division. The Titans are far better than in 2006 and can capitalize on extended struggles by the Colts this season.

I definitely feel more comfortable about the Titans/Colts game right now - the first one at least.

There defense looked horrible until he came back in the super bowl and there defense looked entirely different.

He actually came back at least for the playoffs, if not a game or two earlier.

And their defense looked a ton better with him in there.

I think it was like the AFC championship game maybe the game before. I think he was out until the playoff, but I could be wrong.

According to ESPN's play by play logs, he played in all four playoff games, but not before. He played two games at the start of the season and then the final four in the playoffs.

Ok that sounds about right....I just remember them losing a few games at the end of the season. I remember ESPN saying they looked soft without him playing with them

They definitely had a weaker run defense without him - hence why I feel good about the Titans/Colts game.

Also, I know a couple other Packer fans as well.. who else is a Packer fan on this board? Jw.

Ed Hochuli, who made the bad call on the fumble in the Denver/SD game, has been graded down because of that game.

http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=3589407

That's BS. Yeah, he blew that call terribly. But is it his fault that the NFL that incomplete passes aren't reviewable? He's one of the better refs in the league. He got one wrong. It happens.

And I think I'm the last remaining Rams fan. I guess I know how the Lorax felt... (Good God, the Rams are terrible.)

I don't think it's too much BS. He made a mistake in a pretty critical situation and probably cost the Chargers the game. With that in mind, I don't have a problem with him getting graded down.

Now, he should still be in line for the playoffs and Super Bowl barring more mistakes. He is still one of the best out there.

You can review incomplete passes. You can't review a play once the ref blows the whistle. The problem was he screwed up by blowing the whistle too soon. It's not the NFL's fault.

Exactly, it's his fault. Had he not blown the whistle that quickly the play would have continued and the Chargers likely win the game.

I think Hochuli's a great ref, but he made a mistake and deserved to get graded down for it.

I'm still trying to figure to figure out why he blew the whistle. It looked like a fumble right away (i.e. Cutler's arm not going forward) but even if his arm was going forward, the ball looked like it went backwards which would mean it was a lateral and a fumble anyway.

That is what puzzles me. As far as I can tell that is the "unofficial" cardinal rule for fumbles/incomplete passes. ALWAYS rule a fumble as it can be overturned later after review. He messed up, that's apparent, but as far as I'm concerned his ego played a role in him ruling that an incomplete pass. He saw the arm move forward automatically figured it was a pass. Unless he was just blanking out (which is unacceptable, especially give the situation), I see no other explanation.

Disclaimer: I'm a chargers fan and extremely bias.

I'm rooting hard for Aaron Rodgers all season long so I guess, by default, I'm sort of a Packers fan.

There is like 6 of us, myself inculded. It's going to be a great game but won't define the season for either team. I think Aaron Rodgers could gain some confidence but he has already shown he can play. He did that last year vs the Cowboys.

I think it's safe to say that the Rams and Chiefs are the two worst teams in the league. Kansas City looks like they could be beat by some college teams.

Carolina just choked before the half. Damn it.

Nothing is ever easy for the Panthers, even when they're (possibly) good.

Took about 2 minutes to turn a 10-0 lead into a 10-10 tie with a minute left in the half.

I picked up Ronnie Brown about a half hour before game time and subbed him in for McGahee. I feel pretty good right now.
