For some reason I thought a team had back-to-back no hitters. I was probably thinking of Vander Meer's consecutive no hitters. However, as some of you may know, in 1968 Gaylord Perry no-hit the Cards and on the next day the Cards' Ray Washburn no-hit the Giants.

This is just nuts, isn't it???? They should take Friday and Saturday off more often!

CUBS are 22-23 on Friday & Saturday...... they're 68-35 on Sunday through Thursday.

Go CUBS !!

These are the only two situations I could find about teams being close to throwing back-to-back no-hitters.

May 5 and 6 1917: St. Louis Browns teammates Ernie Koob and Bob Groom both threw no-hitters against the Chicago White Sox. Bob Groom's no hitter was the 2nd game of a doubleheader. So, not back to back games, just back to back days.

July 26 and 31 1888: Philadelphia A's thrown by Ed Seyward and Jim Weyhing.

So, if Lilly had complete the no-hit feat the Cubs would have legitimately made history, by becoming the first team in HISTORY by throwing back to back no-hitters. But all we have to settle for is allowing the fewest amount of hits in a two game span in history.

Kerry Wood and Jon Leiber had back-to-back one-hitters in 2001. In Milwaukee, if I'm not mistaken.

I thought that was against the Reds.

One was against the Reds, I think the other was against a different team (Pittsburgh or Milwaukee I want to say).

ETA: Yeah, Lieber one-hit the Reds, then Wood one-hit the Brewers the next day. Those games were in the middle of our 12-game streak.

Yeah i read somewhere that this is the least number of hits in 2 consecutive games in MLB history.

Didn't Lieber and someone have back to back 1 hitters around 98?

Lieber wasn't a Cub in 1998.

Lieber and Kerry Wood, May 24 and 25, 2001.

Lieber: 9 IP, 1 H, 0 ER, 1 BB, 2 K. Time of game 1:48.

Wood: 9 IP, 1 H, 0 ER, 2 BB, 14 K. Time of game 1:57.

And guess who broke up Wood's no-hit bid in the seventh with none out: Mark Loretta.

"I haven't seen a no-hitter followed by a one-hitter ever," Piniella said. "Our pitching was spectacular here."

Piniella had never seen it because it had never happened. The Cubs became the first team in major league history to throw a no-hitter and one-hitter in back-to-back games.

Not sure if this counts, but I followed up last night's no-hitter with a one-hitter. If you know what I mean.

Only a one-hitter? An occasion that special deserved something bigger.

Lieber only threw 78 pitches that game and faced only 27 batters
