Is Bruce Bochy worse than Dusty? At least the Cubs were in the race when Dusty was overextending Prior. I understand Tim is trying to win the Cy Young, but this is ridiculous. He threw 138 pitches tonight in a 7 run game. He's thrown 127 or more pitches in 3 of his last 4 starts and 115 or more in 5 of his last 6. Isn't that a little obscene for a 24 year old phenom who alreayd has questionable mechanics?

Here are his pitch counts from his last 15 starts, starting with the most recent

The starts before that weren't much better either.

Seriously, this stuff drives me crazy. How can you be so reckless with a guy like that? I highly doubt that an extra inning here and there is going to determine the Cy Young winner anyways.

i don't think his mechanics were ever questionable. the concerns over his health were obviously that he doesn't have the ideal height of a pitcher.

Webb winning the CY would be a travesty. voters aren't going to have any qualms giving it to a pitcher on a bad team in the AL; i'm hoping Lincecum gets the same courtesy.

A lot of scouts have questioned his mechanics as well. I can't remember exactly what, but I remember they were very skeptical of his weird delivery.

He is going to break the Giants single season strikeout record. Kids a stud, Id hate to see him have arm problems.

I agree. Isn't this only his second year in the league? or first full season?

Wow. Somebody should go kidnap Bruce Bochy and save Giants fans from him. This is ridiculous.

As for the other question, Bochy is absolutely worse than both Dusty and Yost in terms of pitcher abuse.

It's a good thing going for the Cy Young means the Giants would have reached the playof-----wait a minute....no it doesn't. Just another manager trying to pad his W/L stats off the back of a young stud.

If he winds up under the knife Gnats fans are going to crucify Bochy.

Hope you got a good escape plan Bruce.

The people I hear from out here feel the opposite way, they get mad when Lincecum gets pulled. The radio people get very excited about this.

We'll see how they react when Lincecum gets hurt.

Chris Lincecum never needed a primer on biomechanics to know that the scouts who doubted his son were wrong. As ASMI -- with its proprietary measurements and motion-capture technology -- pushes pitching further toward quantitative analysis, an aviation parts worker with a backyard mound, a camcorder and an intuitive understanding of how his son's body moves through space traffics in simpler explanations. "I believe," Chris says, "in something called dangle."

Dangle is a term you surely will not find among ASMI's 42 measurements. Dangle refers to the looseness of a pitcher's arm action, the well-lubricated unhinging of the limbs and body, which helps explain why Chris regards Satchel Paige and Sandy Koufax, two hallowed flow pitchers, as the spiritual forefathers to Tim's mechanics. "He'll throw forever," Chris once posted on a blog, referring to his son, "and maintain his velocities and the best breaking ball since Sandy Koufax and the best fastball since Gibson and Feller."

Lincecum's father seems to think that Tim can pitch as much as he wants. With that in mind, Tim, his father, and those around them (Bochy/etc) are going under the assumption that they can pitch him for very high counts. Very unfortunate thinking imo ... time will tell, but they better be a bit more wary of the wear and tear that this is unnecessarily doing to him.

Tims dad will probably be the first out there to blame the manager too, didnt Priors dad do the same thing? He touted his son as the perfect pitcher, the uninjurable and then he later criticized the Cubs care for his arm..

I don't pay much attention to what the media says out here, but two big Giants fans I know (my editor and one of my good friends) both shake their heads whenever I ask them about how stupid Bochy is. They're pretty much hoping he doesn't get hurt and think Bochy is trying to Mark Prior them, just without the pennant race.

Yeah but in all fairness to him it was pretty dumb of the Cubs to allow Prior to pitch after injuring his throwing shoulder running the bases.

reminds me a lot of this:

That's actually from Our Dumb Century (The Onion)

The ire will be ratcheted up significantly if he blows it out. Right now most are probably just hoping it doesn't come back to bite them.

Given that Koufax's career was cut short with arm injuries...isn't he a bad pick as evidence that his son will "throw forever?"
