11 mil a year for Wood? hahahhaa

It's not outside the realm of possibility. If he finishes strong and makes his bonuses, he'll make, I believe, over $7 million.

Normally, given his price tag, injury history, and our available replacement options for a relatively unimportant position... I'd let a guy like him walk, pocket a couple draft picks, and move on with my life.

But, this is Kerry Wood... and that makes things different.

Two years, $15 mil total base, with an extra $10 mil in incentives and a third year vesting option at $12 mil or so.

Wow, when did pitching the 9th become relatively unimportant?

It's the fact that usually multiple guys can do it that makes it unimportant.

Is Wood an Type A Free Agent? He's been out a lot in the past 3 years, isn't that how they're judged?

That's probably what I would do as well. I wouldn't give him more than two years guaranteed and I wouldn't want to pay him a ton right away because of his injury history. The incentives work well because it would allow him to make more money if he stays healthy.

I wouldn't want to give him more than 10M/year even with incentives, though. Just not worth it for a closer.

I don't think we can bring him back if we're much lower than 10M/year. And while I hesitate to pay that much to a reliever... it's Wood. I'd like to keep him in a Cubs uni his whole career.

I'd give him 3/24M, with incentives for starting if he ever became a starting pitcher again.

I would give him incentives never to start again.

I would say 2/16 with a third year option.

I would give him a dollar fifty and a pack of smokes to help Otis Helman in the clubhouse. Please die forever the wood and Prior regime, and lets move on as cubs fans.

Yes, because the organization clearly made a mistake for the ages bringing him back this year.

Let's not take a chance, just ban this one now.

what he said ... that guy is either 4 years old, a troll, and just plain dim witted

I would say 2/20 with incentives to get up to 12 per year and club option of 11 mil for a third year (with inflation 11 mil will be like 10 mil).

And no most teams don't have multiple guys who can do a good job closing. A few teams, and the Cubs are one have multiple guys, and quite a few teams have no one. There are less than 32 dependable closer's in the league.
