I don't HATE late inning bunting depending on the situation...

I HATE Soto bunting EVER.

Pretty much how I feel. With about half the combinations of hitters up/hitters due up, I'm ok with bunting the winning run over to 2nd. When your hitter is a better hitter than he is a bunter, that's an automatic non-bunt situation though. If Soto was good at laying down bunts, I wouldn't like the call but at least I'd understand it. That just didn't make much sense.

Same as Joshi and CCP in that it depends on the situation. Most cases I'm against it but there are certain times when I don't mind it.

I know Soriano is "OMG SO GOOD" but the other night (about a week ago?) in a Cubs' loss, when Soriano was up with guys on 1st and 2nd, no out, and he wasn't made bunt the runners over to second and third, I almost flipped. It was either the bottom of the 9th or the 10th or something.

i would have flipped if he was made to bunt. like i did when Derosa bunted. or like i did last night when soto bunted.

Bunting Soriano to set it up for Theriot and Lee or bunting DeRosa for Whatever dreck they had after him are just horrible ideas. Taking the bat out of your best hitters so that worse hitters have a chance to drive in the runs is awful.

I call myself a Cubs fan. And since doing something like that is incredibly stupid and detrimental to the Cubs, I don't like it.

The fact that it gives old timers stiffies by reminding them of the good ole days when baseball was played the right way makes no difference to me.

It increases the chances of the "worse hitter" 10 fold, though. It makes the other team bring the infield in, and a medium to medium-deep fly wins the game. However, the chances of Alfonso making an out are 70%, despite him being a good hitter or not. I'll take my chances with the bunt.

It's not a matter of the chances of Soriano making an out and that's it. It's the chances of none of Soriano, Theriot, or Lee getting on. Odds are Theriot draws the IBB there and then you have Derrek Lee up with the infield at DP distance.

If it wasn't DLee I would continue to argue this point, but with Derek at the plate in that situation your logic is fairly sound. 8-)

Big Papi put down a sac bunt in last night's Boston/Tampa Bay extra inning game (2nd in his career)

There is a place for bunting in MLB, however .. ... .. it should be used only for pitchers, light hitting guys, etc - not sluggers

When Soto squared up to bunt in the St L game I came up out of my chair yelling at Lou not to take the bat out of Geo's hands

Go Cubs

No, for the sole reason that when I was in 5th grade, I broke up a perfect game with a bunt, when my team was down 10-0 and the other guy was 2 outs away.
