The Cubs are under no responsibility to the Brewers to give the Astros their best effort (in terms of lineup/player use/etc...obviously the players out there need to "try" to win). Even if they were, it wouldn't take precedent over their own responsibility to give themselves their best chance to win a championship.

I see resting the regulars for the playoffs in those games as a 100% non-issue.

Amen. The Cubs' responsibility is to their own chances, not to other teams. It's the Brewers' own responsibility for not winning a few more games (especially against teams like the Reds) and making it a completely moot point. That's why I said the Cubs should outright forfeit if they've clinched (although I think going through the motions by playing forfeit lineups would be more likely). If they're not going to actually forfeit the next best thing would be to tell the players who will be on the postseason roster for the NLDS not to even bother reporting, call up eveybbody on the 40-man roster who hasn't already been called up, and make do with 15 players. They could do that by not pinch-hitting, making any defensive replacements, and no double switches. They'd need three starters at most, so they could get by with a short pitching staff.

Hobby Airport Open To Small Plane Traffic

Hobby Airport will be open tomorrow to only those pilots using visual flight rules, or VFR, according to the Federal Aviation Administration.

Commercial flights, which fly under IFR or instrument flight rules are not operating yet, said Roland Herwig, FAA spokesman in Oklahoma City.

"We do not know when it (Hobby) will be fully operational," Herwig said.

Still no word on when Bush Intercontinental Airport will reopen.

No word on how scared Lance Berkman is of small planes...

It's 6:00 and there hasn't been an announcement regarding tomorrow's game. This is patently absurd. Seriously, what the hell is going on here? Did Bud forget about this series or something?

Apparently Drayton McClane runs MLB.

Or he has some compromising pictures of Bud Selig with a Shetland Pony.

Reports are that he is driving through the streets of Houston with speakers on the roof of his car repeating "All is Well, the Storm has Passed, Come out and Watch the Red Hot Astros Play 2 Tomorrow, We are doing this for you fans!" over and over again.

I can understand if a decision hasn't been made as to when and where the games will be played. (Ok, honestly, I can't understand, but I'm trying to be diplomatic.) However, I don't see why an official announcement that Sunday's game has been postponed hasn't been made. The airport is still closed, so there's no way the Cubs get there on Sunday. I'm not sure if it still is, but there was a period of time today that downtown Houston was closed off so damage could be assessed.

Just announce the game tomorrow is postponed and take it from there.

It's especially hilarious (re: embarrassing for MLB) because not only has the NFL already pushed back and then postponed this weekend's Texans-Ravens game, but they've already set the makeup date for Nov. 9. Additionally, to do so the NFL had to switch around the bye weeks for both the Texans and the Ravens, as well as the Bengals. The Texans were supposed to play the Bengals on Nov. 9 but both teams had a bye on Oct. 26 so they moved that game there, gave the Bengals a by on Nov. 9 and moved the Texans-Ravens game to that weekend.

MLB, on the other hand, still hasn't made an official announcement on a game that's supposed to take place in 19 hours. What a joke.

6:42 and still no announcement. Pathetic.

I am sure the decision has been made but they just haven't announced it. The MLB just has a very bad PR department. The NFL looks quick and decisive since they actually make public their decisions right away. Bud treats everything like it is top secret (see - maple bat "investigation").

FWIW, the Astros not only aren't answering their phones, but don't have an answering machine picking up either.

perhaps their offices are underwater

From Sun Times: "Cubs still expect word tonight on site/time for Stros games."

You know what would have been helpful in this whole situation? If someone could invent some sort of 'Storm Tracker' that would have been able to map out where the storm would likely hit and when. It would really have helped if there was some advance warning that the Astros could have used to make decisions.

Yeah! We could have people working at a special place... we could call it the National Center for Hurricanes, or something like that. They could forecast where these storms would hit and what kind of impact they'd have. Boy, would that be something!

Sigh... someday.

You can't blame MLB too much on this one. This storm just snuck up on everyone. I mean, look when this thread was started...oh, 6 days ago.

Never mind.

Well, the trackers posted throughout this thread were made for us by Truffle. They're top secret NSBB storm trackers.

Update from Wittenmeyer

"The Houston Astros appear willing and able to get out of Houston Sunday to play the Cubs at a neutral site Sunday and Monday, but Astros players are fighting a recommendation to play at Milwaukee’s Miller Park because of the virtual home-field advantage that affords the Cubs, according to sources.

Insiders expect an agreement to be struck tonight, and the Cubs moved back travel plans from tonight to early Sunday."

Player's union is involved. Houston players have called in the union and don't want to go to Milwaukee. Anytime a union is involved, options are eliminated and it gets complicated. Edited by Peoriaman
