i imagine forfeiting meaningful games right before the playoffs might be a distraction. prolly going to be some some controversy, undesirable media attention. ideally they should've had single games fri-sun at a neutral site.

With the way the Brewers are collapsing right now, it would seem quite probable that the Astros and Phils are in the WC race come the end of the regular season. Imagine if the Phils are say 1-2 games up in the WC and we have to make up 1 or more games. That would be such a incredible nightmare for everyone.

Can anyone imagine Roger Goodell or David Stern going 4 days without making a decision on a critical time-sensitive issue? It is to the point where the players union really needs to get involved and force a decision.

Well if the announce this game has been moved to Milwaukee which I doubt is going to happen I will be heading up there.

"This could be the biggest series in the history of this season," McLane told the Houston Chronicle. "And the fans would be a tremendously inspirational force for our players. And I didn't want our players to be away from their families.

It would only really be a nightmare for the Brewers. If they collapsed then that would mean we probably already won the division and we'd just put all the scrubs out there to play the makeup games. Oh man would that piss the Brewers off.

Well in the scenario I listed it is for everyone as:

A.) The Phils would possibly have their playoff hopes resting on our B team.

B.) The Cubs would have to fly part of the team to Houston after the end of the season and deal with the media who I'm sure would be focused on whether or not they put out a competitive lineup.

C.) The MLB would have a full blown controversy on its hands.

D.) I guess the Astros would be happy as the situation would certainly seem to favor them.

Why is it any different if the Cubs put out the B lineup in meaningless (to them) re-scheduled games than in meaningless games as scheduled, which happens all the time?

The Cubs are under no responsibility to the Brewers to give the Astros their best effort (in terms of lineup/player use/etc...obviously the players out there need to "try" to win). Even if they were, it wouldn't take precedent over their own responsibility to give themselves their best chance to win a championship.

I see resting the regulars for the playoffs in those games as a 100% non-issue.

This is a good move by McLane. He might be just doing it for financial reasons, but this is the best case scenario for his team. There is absolutely no way this can backfire on them.

I can't believe it's 4:30 on Saturday and they haven't annouced what's become of a 1:05 game tomorrow.

Hey careful now, don't want Warren Brusstar coming down on you for impatience!

Umm... so possibly the hottest team in baseball is sitting around waiting. Wouldn't the best case scenario be for them to get these games in while they are playing so well, rather than sitting around for 3 days?

question: what 40 man roster problems will there be if the Iowa Cubs play a game or two after the season, but before the playoffs? those players should make themselves available!

There are rumors that they will play tomorrow and Monday in Arlington now that the Dallas/Ft. Worth weather looks clear for the next few days. The Rangers would have to move their next series back a day, but word is that they are willing to do it to accomodate MLB. Truth be told, the Cubs-Astros games would probably draw better than a Rangers game. I have a friend that works in the Rangers ticket office. He hasn't heard anything yet, but I should know something right away if he does hear any updates. This move would make my old man and me very happy.

Ugh, Jason Marquis and possibly Ted Lilly pitching in Arlington does not sound like a fun option. Hopefully with it being September, the humidity that causes the ball to coast out of that park will have died down some.

From what I read, we would most likely get Z, Dempster, and Marquis in a 3 game series. And for the record, the humidity is not very high here. Nothing like Chicago or Houston.

My bad, I just assumed that the humidity was why the ball always flew at Arlington. What is it then wind currents?

Crappy pitching.

Texans game PPD until November

Unbelievable a league making a quick decision. Granted Reliant Stadium suffered some damage but still.

I tried calling the Astros to see if I needed to start driving to Houston for tomorrow's game, but no one answered the phone.

They were busy speaking with Sweet Swinging Billy.

Bruce Miles chimes in... likely no baseball Sunday...

Been waiting all day to hear from the Cubs about what they're plans are for the Astros series. Late this afternoon, a Cubs person said the team will not travel today, to Houston or anywhere else. That means it's unlikely the Cubs and Astros will play tomorrow, as teams almost never travel on day of game. The Cubs say they don't know what will happen.

The Astros have been clinging to the hope of playing at least two games in Houston by Monday, but the effects of Hurricane Ike may prevent that.

A couple days ago, I suggested the teams move the proceedings to Miller Park in Milwaukee, but the Astros wanted no part of it, even if it meant they could get all three games in and not have to worry about playing after the scheduled end of the regular season.

The Astros could have left Houston, with their families if they had wished, after Thursday's game, and flown to Milwaukee or Chicago. If the 'stros are worried about missing three gates, Miller Park may have helped them, even if Cubs fans flocked northward. The Astros could have been the "home" team, and MLB could have given them the gate receipts and even dipped into some reserves to cover the rest of it.

But we went through that the other day. It made too much sense, apparently, for the Astros and MLB.

We're waiting to hear from Cubs officials later this afternoon or this evening. I'll keep you posted.
