if brady did indeed blow out his knee, the chargers need to fire norv turner immediately. they can definitely win the afc with a competent coach.

I'm perplexed by the turner hating. Was not getting to the AFC championship game (with a limping team) not good enough? With a healthy LT and/or Rivers that game looks a lot different.

So what if they lost game one of this season? The last three super bowl champions lost game one of the season. Only if they had a better coach, right?

Look, I'm not saying that he's the best coach ever or even that he is better than Schottenheimer. I'm just saying that he has talent to work with and he's a pretty smart football guy, especially offensively. Overall, I trust AJ Smith and the decisions he makes. He's built the chargers piece by piece and I trust that he's got the guy in charge that puts them in a good position to win.

Norv Turner has an entire career of incompetence as a head coach. That doesn't get ignored after one good season with an incredibly stacked roster that he inherited.

It doesn't help matters that they fired a great coach and brought in one who has proven he's simply a great O-coordinator and extremely incompetent head coach.

I had San Diego to beat my team in Survival Football. I hope I'm eliminated.
I gave you a hard time over that on the Survival Football board. I also picked the Chargers this week, but since the Panthers are my third team (behind the Bears and Colts) it's not the same level of shame. :D

Did you guys hear that Tom Brady got hurt? While passing the ball, FROM THE POCKET?!!?

ESPN didn't talk about it at ALL. Just thought I would inform you guys.

It's really surprising that ESPN is talking about it so much. I mean, they're making it seem like it's by far the biggest story of Week 1.

Oh wait...

Im just pointing out how ESPN is going overboard. I understand its a big story, but come on.

On ESPNEWS on the bottom line it would flash red and say...

BREAKING NEWS: Patriots to bring in QB Chris Simms for a try out.

BREAKING NEWS: Patriots to bring in QB Tim Rattay for a try out.

I guess I went a little overboard myself but I don't need to know that tghe Patriots are going to bring in 2 scrubs for a try out.

mhuber, damn tough day. Seahawks will get up, keep the faith. The team is getting it's injuries out of the way now. Right?...I hope. Eeesh. I remember feeling more optimistic with Zorn out there, at least Largent would hang on to the ball. Both the 'Hawks and the Cubs, just rolled over and died today. I don't know. Next week and Tuesday, respectively, I guess.

Should the Patriots call Culpepper?

They said during tonight's game that they're calling de-spleened Chris Simms.

I forgot all about him, that could be a move that actually pays off well.

anybody's better than cassell.

how do we know this? he hardly played at usc and has hardly played as a pro. he might stink, but i don't think we have enough evidence either way.

btw i don't think i can remember the last time i saw such a joyous reaction to an injury. people at work, people on this board, etc. you'd think that tom brady was a serial rapist and the patriots were owned by al qaeda.

Goodbye NE if Brady's done for the year.

i bet everyone thought the pats were sunk when blesdoe got hurt and brady had to come in.

Do you have faith in Matt Cassell?

I still think they'll be in the playoff hunt, but I don't see them as a Super Bowl threat now.

They'll be in the playoff hunt simply because they play in the AFC East (not to say the Pats weren't good the last few years, but damn does that division suck outside of them).

Bill Belichick as Cleveland HC: 36-44 (1-1 playoff record)

Bill Belichick as New England HC: 92-37 (14-3 playoff record)

Did he magically become a football genius after leaving Cleveland? Or is he a product of his team's talent? I just don't put a lot of stock into the head coach, that's all. SD has a really good team and this year, just like last year, their record will show that. Even with Norv Turner.

Every year it seems like there's a big season ending injury to someone in week 1. Injuries are part of the game. It will be interested to see how long this story hangs around. Even ESPN will move on, won't they?

I couldn't even listen to Mike and Mike this morning on the way to school. I have a 45 minute drive and usually listen every morning. The INSTANT I turned it on the morning I heard about Brady... and in the 20 minutes I listened I heard 5 references to his injury not even counting Sportscenters.

It's like the NFL script writers are panicking because Brady is hurt and they have to rewrite the season.

Then again, it did take away from me having to hear that Brett Favre won his debut as a Jet 38257290582309583258230855809 times.

Both of those days can't come quickly enough! Ugh, what a bad Sunday, especially since it was my only day off last week after having to do fiscal year budgets all week long.

Anyone else tired of hearing how sad we should all feel about Brady being out for the year?

Give me a break. It's football, injuries happen. Nobody was wishing for him to get hurt, but now that he is, let's see how the Patriots deal with it. You know, like every other football team has to deal with injuries to their key players.

I'm not sad about this at all. This is always a possibility every time a player takes the field. That's why teams need to have good secondary plans.

Oh and by the way, the last time the Patriots had this happen to them things turned out pretty darn good. I wouldn't be writing off their season, either.

But let's please stop the boo-hoo pity party for Brady and the Pats. Deal with it, it's part of the game.

Packers need to beat the Vikings so I can feel better about yesterday's Cubs loss.

I think this game is one of the more interesting games of the week.

All I've heard the last three years from Colts fans is how it would be great if Brady got hurt. I had a roommate who was standing up and cheering when he heard. He also was saying that the Colts ill now definately win the Superbowl because no other team is even close. He was pretty quite 3 1/2 hours later on that subject though.
