#1- Do you think maybe Zambrano should be the #3 starter in the playoffs behind Dempster and Harden?

#2- Do you ever find yourself wishing the Cubs signed Carlos Lee instead of Soriano?

There's probably a lot of statistical evidence to prove Soriano is better, for some reason I just feel like Carlos Lee is the better pure hitter. He doesn't strike out much, hits for power, and always seem to be a good clutch hitter. Plus even if he is fat and slow in left field you don't seem to see the mental errors you see with Soriano.

Then again I don't really watch Astros games so maybe I'm just slapping my forehead over that botched catch tonight.

#1 - depends on how he is pitching in September. He has these slumps for several weeks every year, and he should be able to work out of this one.

#2 - Yes I have. Though I'm pretty surprised Lee's production has held up as well as it has given how out of shape he is. Plus 6 years is better than 8 years.

D'oh, can't say I agree with those reasons. Mostly, I would just prefer the similar production for fewer dollars and years.

1: Ask me again once September/Oct hits. Z is a career 17-10 (12-16 in August) in Setpember. With an ERA of 3.48 (4.07 in August), and a whip of 1.30 (1.34 in August). I suspect Z will turn it on with September hits. But right now, yeah, I would put Z at 3. But in a month, who knows........

2: Lee's a future DH in waiting. I love his offensive game, but Soriano's more versatile, not to mention he will age better.

no one knows what length of contract Lee would have wanted with the Cubs could be the same could not so I don't take length into factor just relative price per year. And Lee's production has held up because he routinely (from the games I've seen) either hits it into the porch or off it to get a double.

If Carlos Lee were a Cub, we never would have had that moment last season where Scott Eyre was sticking his head out of the LF scoreboard during a game at the Juicebox and making faces at C. Lee while he was playing defense. And I don't know about you, but if laughing at moments like that is wrong, I don't wanna be right.

No one out there was willing to go 8 years on Lee, likely due to concerns over his conditioning. It was also my understanding that he wanted to come back to Chicago, so he might have signed for less here.

Eh who knows. Sori is no doubt more athletic and there for will be able to not degrade on defense until later but he doesn't have much raw strength. He's got a great swing that generates a lot of power but when his bat slows with age I would expect him to quickly become a below average hitter.

Not true at all. Lee's road splits- .305/.352/.579/.931

I'm hoping that the Cubs clinch early and get Z some rest.

Lee instead of Soriano....maybe the length of the deal being a factor a bit but I like Soriano out there right now.

I'm thinking Z will be the number 2 starter.

If you take contracts into consideration, I would have taken Carlos Lee over Soriano in a heartbeat.

I agree that he should be, but I don't think that he will be.

1 - Depends on how Z throws in September, and who we're going against. Regardless, Harden is my #1.

2- I would have preferred Hendry open up the strings a year earlier and got Beltran instead.

Soriano over 6 years is definitely better than Lee over 6 years. Athletic types age better than the plodding slugger types. Gun to my head, I take Soriano's contract.

I'm with everyone else in thinking Z gets things straightened out by October, but really you can't go wrong with any of the top 3 in any order.

1. based on performance so far this season, I would say yes. I believe Z and Dempster will have much closer numbers again by the end of the season so I'd probably give him the edge because of his offense. Harden is my #1 either way.

2. no

1. Depends on the last weekend and how close the Brewers are to us.

2. sori is so much more entertaining, if we could just get him not to hop

1. Gotta wait. September will be a telling month. Either way though, I'm pretty sure he won't be the #3

2. Yes, many times. I actually think Carlos Lee is better than Soriano (maybe it's because he mashes the Cubs). I can't say I am not happy with Fonz though. At least he has speed. (sometimes)

I think it's moot; Carlos has the contract so he'll get the ball. I get the feeling he overthrows every August as he sees his Cy Young chances slipping away. Once he knows he's not winning it this year, he relaxes and pitches well the rest of the way. Theoretically.

I don't watch the Astros every day so I don't know if I'd rather have Lee over Soriano. I know I'd rather our pitchers face Soriano than Lee.

I'd take Adam Dunn over both, though.

It would depend on how Zambrano pitches the rest of the season. He had a poor August last year too but righted himself.

I'd take Lee over Soriano just based on the length of contract. Just wait till those final 4 years on Soriano's contract. Ugh.
