Alright, here's the 1st game of the doubleheader. Cubs.com is still reporting Harden vs. Morton for this game, but it's been reported the Cubs will go with Marquis.

**EDIT: Cubs.com now has Marquis vs. Morton as the starters for this one, as reported**

Jason has been up & down this year. He brings his 4.73/95/1.439 to the opener hoping for a good performance to start things off.

Morton's been poor for the year, but better lately, and he seems to be a streaky pitcher so his 5.70/72/1.435 might be on the upswing. He's shown here in his once and future uniform.

Time to remind Charlie and his Braves why they aren't in playoff contention this year. LETS GO.

Ugh... Pittsburgh in 2004 :banghead:

We should've swept the St.L DH in 2003... that was the Moises bad foul call game... I was there. Everyone was calling home on their cellphones asking what the replay showed because they wouldn't show it at the park.

Heh there is probably a reason they wouldn't show the replay at Wrigley :)

Yup.

Place would've been an absolute mad house.

It would be a mad house if they erected a video replay board just to show a foul ball call.

Doesnt Marquis have an absolutely dreadful history vs. the Braves?

Most of the current Braves have very little history against Marquis. Andruw Jones killed him, but he's moved on. Chipper has hit 3 home runs against him in only 6 at-bats. Overall though, there's no real idea if this Braves squad is a bad matchup for him.

That was the epic 5-game set against the Cardinals ... the DH Game 2 was the only game the Cubs lost in that series.

Yup. I was also at the game they made the huge comeback in.

Don't tell anybody, but I left after the Drew slam and caught the comeback on the drive home after the train ride...

That was the last time I ever left a game early.

There are TVs in the upper and lower decks...

Yeah I know, when he said "they wouldn't show it at the park", I didn't think he meant WGN

Ahh, good times.

Was that the day Rob Mackowiak's kid was born and he celebrated by beating the Cubs to death? That sucked.

I was at Game 1 of the Cards DH in 2003. Sosa with a walkoff. I think 90% of the Cubs team almost hit walkoffs in that game. I got home just in time to see the Alfonseca belly bump in the 2nd game. That bad call prevented a 5-game series sweep by the Cubs.

???

We won both of those games. The Mackowiak disaster was in 2004, I believe.

Doh. I quoted the wrong one.

Cubs: Forget about the Brewers and take care of your own baseball games.

Thank you.

(not that they're doing this, but just a friendly reminder. the Brewers ultimately don't matter if we take care of our business)

That's not really true. Let's give Marquis credit for the good starts he's had. He's not a 65 ERA+ pitcher this year. He's a 95 ERA+ pitcher, which isn't really all that horrible for a #5. The Braves are no juggernaut this year, it's nothing like facing them when they were a playoff team.

The other thing is, he's been holding pretty steady through the year. Putting up some bad starts, then some mediocre ones, with a smattering of good starts. We're in mid August now, which is usually well past the time when Jason collapses. Hasn't happened yet. Let's hope it continues.
