is there a general nhl thread or do i need to start one?

Go for it, the 'reigning champs' got destroyed by the worst team in the league tonight 3-2.

Give Toews and Kane a few days to be on the same line. Savard can't stick with a line for more than two games.

I understand Savard is trying to creat scoring depth on the team but it's pretty risky experiment having your brest two players playing on two different lines. I expect Toews/Kane and whoever lineup to be together before 5 games are played.

We really probably shouldn't have 82 individual Blackhawks game threads. As excited as everyone is, I don't think there will be even as much demand as individual Bulls game threads. In the past for the Bulls we've just done a season thread and everyone posts in there everytime theres a game. The thread is almost always on the front page of Social so its easy to bump. Just a suggestion.

If we want to do individual game threads for the Bears/Bulls/Blackhawks, we really need an "other sports" or "Chicago sports" forum.

With that said, looking forward to watching the game tonight.

I went ahead and merged this with the Blackhawks season thread. We don't need 80+ game threads...it's not like the Bears where there's just 16 games. The Bulls only have one thread as well...that works fine.

I think we should have a new thread, or change the title. The call to arms thing looks so dorky.

Not that anybody cares, but with NLCS game 2 potentially being played tonight, I didn't commit to going to this game when I had the chance. Now it's up in the air whether or not I'll be able to go. Usually I attend 2-3 Rangers games a year (free tickets, not free beer - always go with the Molson with the pretzel rod sticking out of the mug handle, just great). It's a good hockey crowd.

Just to have the chance to go to MSG for either a Rangers or Knicks game would be good enough for me. But you're spoiled I guess. I wish the United Center was built somewhere downtown instead of a place that is essentially devoid of any sort of neighborhood feel. It doesn't have to be trendy or upscale like Wrigleyville, but it would be nice to have some sort of buildup to the game atmosphere. The West Loop is the best option but its still about 1.5 miles from the arena. The free shuttles help though.

MSG isn't exactly in a great neighborhood. It's somewhat built up in recent years, but it's kind of dead. It's also nowhere near Madison Square, and is the 4th building with that name. Even moreso than Yankee Stadium - which was at least essentially rebuilt on top of the old grounds, I don't get the infatuation with its history. It's a late 60's building that's really ugly. But the hockey crowds are great. Basketball crowds are a joke.

Can anyone manage the game thread for the first period? I'll be getting hammered and eating wings and don't want my keyboard to turn orange.

Wow!

1-1 at the end of the 1st!

Kane (1), assisted by Campbell (1).

What an amazing goal.

Also... Fraser got into an early fight.

First period analysis:

The Hawks should really have 3 or 4 goals right now with the opportunities they've had. They are skating so fast and getting amazing looks, things just aren't falling their way. The Hawks are completely outplaying the Rangers, regardless of the score.

The goal by Kane was amazing... Brian Campbell realized he had nowhere to go so intentionally shot it off the post back to Kane who put it in the net on the 'rebound'.

Only 2 penalties so far (1 for Hawks, 1 for Rangers, 1 Fight) and the game has been clean. The Hawks look dominant.
