Cards fans, at least those on forums, are absolutely freaking out right now. Jimmy's a traitor, boycott his restaurant, his legacy is dead, etc.

Pretty funny stuff.

Bernie M had an interesting perspective on the game in his column today:

With Edmonds pirouetting on this venerated baseball stage, all but blowing kisses to his adoring blue toadies, the Cubbies deflated the Cardinals 3-2 in 11 innings Friday afternoon.

Edmonds also referred to his Cubs experience as "a blessing." And the next thing you know, Cubs fans will be wearing replicas of those retro Edmonds half-shirts.

Make no mistake, Edmonds' resentment still runs like mascara. When FSN Midwest's Brent Stover and Mike Claiborne (KTRS) approached Edmonds after the game for a quickie on-field interview that's a standard courtesy for rights holders, Edmonds refused.

"Edmonds said, 'I'm done with St. Louis TV and radio and I'm done with the Cardinals,' '' Claiborne told me.

With me being forced to record this game the Cubs in the last two seasons have been 5-0 when I am forced to miss a game and record it, and they have been some good games.

1. The Aramis walk-off game against Milwaukee last year (which I saved on DVD)

2. A game last year against the Giants against Tim Lincecum when the Cubs came back to win it in the 8th.

3. The last game of the season last year when Hill took a no-hitter kind of far into the game (why can't he come back like this)

4. The throwback game with Reed Johnson's walk-off HBP

5. Todays game.

So out of those five, three were walk-off wins, and one was a nice come from behind win...Maybe I should miss games more often.

NSBB needs to chip in and get you the best DVR money can buy.

People really shouldn't waste their time ready his stuff. He's a huge idiot. Most Cards fans I know hate the guy too.

sad day to quote a "Bernie M"

yikes - lighten up - I only posted it for a few yucks. And the bit about Edmonds refusing a "courtesy" interview w/Stl media, if true, was noteworthy. I emphasize "if true", because Bernie is indeed a dbag and I wouldn't put it past him to embellish or fabricate that.

I don't know if this has been mentioned, but Edmonds as a Cubs has a higher SLG than every other qualifying player in baseball.

They were referring to the fact that Bernie Mac died this morning.

Benie M is a hack.

His writing in the P-D panders to the St. Louis sheep. He actually speaks pretty intelligently and calls out Cardinal and fan stupidity on his radio show on a regular basis. He also, surprisingly, is a huge stats/saber guy (well, he uses stats all the time and he weighs 300+ lbs). And he hates TLR's guts because of the way he treats people.

The writing is much different than his real point of view, but I think he gets reigned in a little by the paper and isn't really allowed to do what he wants. Pretty terrible of him to let that happen, but whatever.

Bernie is obnoxious, and I think he's by far the least intelligent sportswriter in STL. I agree that his usage of sabre/stats is refreshing, as is his willingness to call out the Cards and their fanbase. However, more often than not he's just a hothead using faulty logic to arrive at an irrelevant/ignorant conclusion.

He and TLR do have a "history" together - and if I was TLR I would've punched him in a couple of those spats. Do you recall their most recent, and possibly biggest blow-up? TLR was defending the Cubs after Bernie's article "Why the Cubs will never break the curse"...

A friend from St. Louis sent me an email saying the following. Paraphrasing what he said: but apparently the two guys that Edmonds told to eff off were actually two of the most pro-Edmonds during the whole move from STL-SAN-CHI. It would have been fine for Edmonds to be a drama queen to Bernie M or someone else; but it was uncalled for with the two guys he cussed out.

On 1380 this morning McKernan (who also hapens to be one of Edmonds' business partners) said he talked to both Edmonds and Claiborne, both of whom he knws well, and had this to say. Basically Edmonds says Brent Stover (who he referred to as a Cards reporter in a red shirt) said "hey, I'm with Cards TV can I get an interview" to which he responded "I'm a Cub now, get a Cardinal to do your interview". McKernan also said Stover didn't remember him saying anything like what Claiborne is reporting. Apparently Claiborne and Edmonds have had a civil dscussion since then but both are sticking to their stories. (all quotes are paraphrased and not exact)

It doesn't make sense for Edmonds to alienate people in St. Louis because he has a business down here. He may be a bit of a prima donna, but he's certainly never struck me as a complete idiot who would risk a business venture over something stupid like this.

At least they didn't leave a dead baby bear in front of Edmond's place.

BTW: f15teen? Kinda stupid.
