As much as I wish Fontenot played an adequate SS, he doesn't.

You might could use him in an emergency situation, but as the main back-up, no.

as someone who corrects people for their grammar, you might want to avoid phrases like "might could"

so is furcal done for the year or something? why would they want cedeno?

I haven't followed the Dodgers that closely this year. But, Furcal is out for the year, iirc and they replaced him with Garciaparra who just got hurt again.

Nomar is said to be day to day with a slight knee sprain, but you know how day to day injuries can be with Nomar. It might be a month...

Furcal says he'll be back this year actually. Of course he would say that though, since he's a FA at the end of the year and wants to prove he's healthy.

If Fontenot can stay hot the rest of the season, I could see him getting the full tim 2B job next year and moving DeRosa back to the super sub role, or even making him a decent trade chip for the offseason. The cajun connection works well together, and even seem to feed off each other offensively. Remember Font was a 1st round pick, so the O's must have seen something in him.

He seems to be a streaky hitter and I'm thrilled w/the Fontenot and DeRosa 2nd base platoon this year.

With Adam Everett getting DFA'd today, my guess is the Dodgers wind up with him.

For what it's worth, a quote from the article in the original post:

La Velle and I have spoken to different Dodgers people who say they have no interest in Adam Everett.

The Dodgers have passed on Adam Everett, but are talking with the Cubs about a deal for Ronny Cedeno and Scott Eyre. My source qualified it as a "passing discussion," but there's enough fit on both sides to see where this could happen. One interesting thing that a FOT told me is that some of the Dodgers discussions appear to pre-suppose that they'll bring back Rafael Furcal.

The thought of us making a deal with Colletti gives me the warm fuzzies inside.

Realistically though, what the heck do we ask for in return? I'd think it would be major league players over prospects.

I'd be more than a little surprised if Hu were not involved.

For Cedeno and Eyre? Hu and a prospect would work, the Dodgers have plenty of good ones.

They wouldn't want Marquis as well, would they?

Also, I wonder if Boston would be involved in this as well in some way.

As I just posted in another thread, if the Dodgers want Manny for Kemp (rumor), can we give them Edmonds for Kemp?

Edmonds, Marquis, Cedeno, Eyre for Kemp, Hu... I don't know. I'm horrible at make-believe trades. But like TT, I think when you're dealing with Ned, the sky's the limit.

Who would the Cubs have as a back up SS? I don't understand trading Cedeno unless they get some pretty good quality in return and a back up plan.

Trade Cedeno and Eyre... and pick up Everett.

Sounds like the report on Everett wasn't accurate. Star-Tribune says he's still with the Twins.

Everett's injuries have limited his defense. Adam Everett without the defense is worthless.
