Eyre's last two outtings (over a month ago) were really bad, but prior to that he had been really really good this year. Take away those two outtings, and he has a 0.87 ERA, .546 OPSA, and a WHIP just under one.

If we trade him we better get good return on him.

A two month rental of a LOOGY is not going to fetch much.

I think the Cubs would have to find somebody that intrigued them as a prospect. It wouldn't necessarily be a highly rated one, and it may very likely only be 1, but they'll try to find a name that they may have valued more than some other teams. If they don't find that name, they'll keep Eyre and option Cotts down to the minors for the next month when Wood comes back, and probably try to hold Lieber down the maximum number of days before bringing him up and optioning Marshall.

I think they'll likely find a trading partner though. The bullpen rotation is getting a bit tight down there.

Will Eyre net us a comp pick, by any slight chance?

I would guess absolutely not. Howry might net us a pick. Eyre has pretty much no chance due to injury and ineffectiveness at times.

So if Fuentes can get a high price, why not Eyre? He can be just as good, just without the saves.

not quite

How are we going to get any value "selling" Eyre, if we ourselves are buyers. Buyers don't sell left handed relievers unless something is wrong.

Eyre to the Rays for Gabe Gross? Maybe have the Cubs pick up a few hundred thousand of Eyre's salary and have the Rays add in a Low-A arm strength guy to even things up a bit.

If Gross can still play an acceptable CF, that is.

Then put Jimmy on the DL and let him get his knees and feet healed up for the September run.

Unless the Cubs have a lefty in the pen in their system and don't want to just release Eyre and get nothing in return and can't just send him or Howry down.

Well, relievers are overvalued, so somebody might budge. And the Cubs do have three lefties in the pen, so there's no reason why they should be buyers there.

worst comparison ever

lol, I had to read that twice...Eyre as good Fuentes? We really need a "Homer" emotion on this board.

Fuentes has much better #'s though you take Eyre's with a grain of salt based on sample size. That being said Fuentes is a much better commoditty given his age(as previous mentioned)

I agree with being younger is a better sell though some teams may want a veteran presense but he did say, "can be just as good" and the way I read that is that he can be just as effective as a pitcher.

and Ronny Cedeno can be just as good as Albert Pujols
