I really hope it's not Shark replacing him on the roster. Hopefully, Wuertz or Ascanio get to come back up.

If you can have success in AAA you can have success in the majors. I wouldnt mind seeing Shark at all, I certainly think he'll be better than Howry has been.

I agree with your 2nd sentence.

As for your first one, that's some fuzzy logic.

Technically, it's true. He didn't say, if you have success in AAA you will have success in the majors. He said you can.

Exactly. I just think its worth giving him a shot, I believe he has the stuff/makeup to handle big league hitters. As shaky as some of the guys have been in the bulpen lately I think its worth giving him a chance.

Lets see the Cubbies are going to try this again and bring a starting pitcher up and throw him in the relief role. Look folks he will become a "two pitch" pitcher as in the bullpen he will throw a FB/SL combination. Does success in AAA automatically mean you will do well in the Majors? Hell no, as while Shark throws hard he throws a flat FB. I've said this before that pitchers have better success with a mid 90's FB with late movement than someone that throws High 90's with a straight FB. Then you throw him in the middle of a playoff race with the Brew crew coming and I can't wait to watch this.

I think Samardizja is primarily a 2 pitch pitcher anyway. He mixes in a couple other pitches, but it's mostly the fastball/splitter combo that he's used the last couple months. Those 2 pitches are a great combination for a relief pitcher.

I would actually rather have Ceda. Samardzija could use the extra development. Ascanio and Wuertz haven't been lighting the world on fire. If Samardzija does come up though, it will be good experience for possible help in September from him.

Samardzija still uses his change quite a bit, from all the quotes he's made.

He has little other than the Fastball/Splitfinger anyway he's always been pretty much a 2 pitch pitcher. I always figured his future was as a bulpen arm. No one was saying success in AAA automaticly means you be sucessful in the majors. THere are countless starters who have been called up and had success in the pen, I think Shark can handle it.

Thanks for the clarification. I forgot about the change. He better have kept it after all the rumors of the Cubs making him throw it constantly last year.

Impeding roster move will be made before tomorrow's game.

impeding? was that intentional? if so, well played.

Waiting until tomorrow impede's the Cubs' chances tonight since they're short-handed.

CCP, a quote that would interest you:

“There’s a little more depth to it (the slider),” Wilken said. “He’s shown an average changeup and has a good feel for it, and he’s tinkering with a split and the split just disappears at times. I would say there’s good light at the end of the tunnel here.”

“He’s getting more groundballs now because hitters can’t pick the ball up as quickly. That’s because he’s repeating his delivery better,” added Wilken.

Jeff's is routinely 92-95 at Iowa, topping out at 97.

Has he started throwing the change up more when he started? It would make sense that he would have more success if he did and might be the reason why he did better as a starter.

He was starting when he struggled though. His path in the minors has been start for a couple months, then get sent down to the bullpen for a couple weeks, then start for a couple weeks, then get promoted. Rinse and repeat. Most of his struggles at Daytona and Tennessee were when he was starting.

Thank you for that quote Raisin putting me in my place :D I really thought that he had mostly abandoned the slider because it wasn't coming along like he hoped it would. But apparently that's not the case, and it's a pretty good pitch for him.

It's nice to hear that velocity at Iowa as well. I'm less interested in his results this time up, but I really want to see which of his pitches are plus pitches right now against major leaguers.

Wouldn't he be like the Bizzaro Peter Principle?

only if he doesnt ultimately fail in the majors

As I stated earlier but nobody wanted to listen was that watching the game He was throwing nothing but FB/SL as I stated. Never saw a CH and thats the way its going to continue and believe me I know!! His SL wasn't a strike and his FB was getting hit hard, they should've left him at AAA until call-ups.

According to Gameday, Samardzija threw 5 out of 7 sliders for strikes, and also threw a pair of changeups, including one Ross swung through for the third out in the 8th.

EDIT: His fastball was fouled off 5 times, popped up twice, and hit hard 3 times if you include the Gonzalez flyout.
