Beat me to the punch. Here's Rotoworld's take. It's about time:

Mariners released first baseman Richie Sexson.

The move was rumored to be on the verge of taking place three weeks ago and since then Sexson has hit .213/.391/.383 in 16 games, which actually qualifies as one of his better stretches this season. If this is the start of the team's second attempt at cleaning house Jose Vidro should probably be next, although knowing the Mariners he's more likely to take over for Sexson as the new starting first baseman.

Note to Jim Hendry: I know hes "low risk", but that doesnt mean you HAVE to have him.

I trust Jimbo knows why Richie was good for a few years and has fallen off a cliff.

when has sexson ever been linked to roids. He's a monster at 6'8 240 . Never would have called him a roider, he had a terrible year last year and a terrible first half this year .Could someone fix his mechanics and that huge swing. Sure why not . Does he have a spot on this team probably not.

He would be a great pinch hitter but I doubt he would ever take that role. And seriously people there have been one year wonders dating all the way back to the creation of MLB. He was always big.

Someones bound to grab him up at one point, as they would essentially be paying half of the league minumium for him.

Agreed. Alot of people thought Edmonds was done when the Padres released him, and he's been solid for the Cubs. Some team is going think that Sexson could be their "Edmonds" and sign him quickly. And I could see Tampa, seeing as they are looking for a RH pop for their lineup.

It would be great to see someone like the Yanks get desparate and sign him only to have him continue to suck.

Come to think of it, so are the Cubs.

Alright alright. I was only half joking around.

Don't you know? Every time someone was good and now they're bad, it's a 100% certainty they were on steroids. Get with the program, man. Geez.

That severely dislocated shoulder on a check swing sure didn't help his career.

I would take Sexson as a trial for power righty off the bench if he would agree to it. This is of course after he clears waivers.

Fox sports is reporting the Yankees are close to signing him.

Link.

Sexson, released by the Mariners on July 10, is closing in on a deal with the Yankees, major-league sources say. He will play first base against left-handed pitching, likely reducing the playing time of Wilson Betemit, a switch-hitter.

Good move for the Yankees if they're just using him as a right handed platoon for prorated minimum. He's hitting 1.046 OPS against lefties.

Well, looks like I had the first part right at least.
