Sorry for the tease guys and I wasn't really sure whether this post went in transactions or not, so...mods feel to move this wherever you wish. Anyway, I just called (well, probably 45 min. ago) Jim Hendry's office to encourage him to work out a deal for Rich Harden. I know I'm crazy but what can I say? I'm a die-hard Cub fan (45 yrs. plus).

His secretary said he was in the office but he was currently in a meeting (maybe with other scouts and personnel working on a deal?), so he couldn't take my call. Hendry's secretary was very nice and I just left a message saying that I know Jim will do his best to swing a trade that will counter the Sabathia trade. I reinterated that I'm hoping that Harden will be that player. His secretary thanked me for my comments and said that Mr. Hendry would appreciate my kind words.

In case none of you have this number, I'll give it to you. Call the Cubs at (773) 404-2827 (Cubs). Just remain on the line, ignoring all the prompts and then you will eventually hear a pre- recorded message telling you to "make your selection now or remain on the line and a operator will assist you". When the operator comes on, just ask for Hendry's office.

Give Jimbo and call and tell him to do whatever it takes to land Rich Harden (or someone else for that matter). Man, I love this time of year! Every year I look forward to the trading deadline and what the Cubs might do.

Gosh, how do I put this nicely without promoting an attack or coming across as an arrogant know it all? Please don't take this the wrong way. That is what she is supposed to say to you and doesn't mean he is working on any deal nor that he will get the message. She does her job well.

Pretty much what I figured as well. I think you said it quite well.

Not arguing with that, but why all the vitriol over someone who called the Cubs' number? I think it's pretty cool, despite the fact that it will net nothing.

It's insensitivity like this that brings down this forum. The man has a life threatening illness and all you do is bring him down. Nice. Real nice.

When I read some of you people's posts I just throw my hands up in exasperation.

I'm sorry for singling you out, you aren't the only one in this thread in need of a life check.

Oh please. Billy said some dumb stuff in his post and then everyone made fun of him, and then he told people he had cancer.

Then it got awkward. Bringing up his cancer, unrelated to anything at all, was his fault.

It doesn't change the fact that his original post was hilarious.

First, how was I to know he had cancer? I didn't.

Second, I wasn't trying be be insenstitive and tried to put it as nicely as I could. I wasn't trying to bring anyone down in any way. I knew someone would misinterpret it as happens to me often here. So I apologize.

SSBW, I apologize but I didn't know.

Ok so I'm a jokester but now when I stick up for someone with a life threatening illness I'm the boy who cried wolf (no pun intended). I get it and I probably deserve it. Fair enough. Let me clarify.

I apologize for sounding harsh but that's just bogus. What he did may be laughable to some of you and certainly unrealistic, but you don't joke about cancer. My aunt was just diagnosed for the second time with breast cancer so I know what it can do to someone you love. SSBW doesn't deserve this abuse. It's like making fun of someone who is on an amber alert or was sexually abused or something.

But how was RedIvy insensitive? I don't get it.

I think Wolf is still being facetious.

I'd hope so because I don't really see anyone being insensitive to his cancer. I also thought it was kind of lame to be like "yea well you wouldn't react this way if you knew I had cancer." I'm really sorry he has cancer, but it doesn't change how I feel about the original post, and it's not like the two are related. I dunno.

First: I'm sorry to hear about your battle, SSB, beat that cancer into remission, my man.

Second: Getting back on the original topic, SSB I appreciate your "audacity" to call up Hendry's office and whatnot, but like some have already said, Hendry is one of the hardest working GMs in baseball. And he would have to be living under a rock, to not know the Cubs need to make a counter move. For goodness sake, he was in a hospital bed, and still completed the Ted Lilly contract. So, Hendry is always working. But I am pretty sure, he loves hearing from the fans. But you should also know, that if he could make a trade for a Rich Harden today, he would, but that is not in his power.

Third: I think Hendry now has a case of:

You should all hurry up, run and tell your kids that Santa isn't real. Then kick dirt in their faces.

SSBW, it might have actually been you, but I remember somebody posting once that they called a Cubs number and left a message for Dusty Baker and that he returned the call. Its probably very unlikely, but I don't think its ridiculous to think you might get through to Hendry.

Hendry wasn't at a meeting...he was actually at the McDonald's across the street from Wrigley eating a Big Mac.

I admire your spunk, Billy ... get on that horn and let Hendry know what's what, man!

And don't let a group of snickering message board posters bother you - save your energy and channel it into getting yourself well.

The cancer is completely unrelated to how hilarious the original post was. I mean, I'm sympathetic, but that's just an enormous copout.

Preach it. I have no sympathy for people who use their illness to shield themselves from good natured ribbing. Cancer doesn't make you impervious to criticism; at least when I had it it didn't.

SSB getting mad about fun had in this thread would be like Edward D Wood Jr. getting mad when people laughed at Plan 9. Take success where you can get it pal.

Best of luck on the bad crap, I can relate. But you should take the fact that you made a bunch of cynical Cubs fans day as a good thing.

Smile a little bud ;o)

Winner. The original post was completely [expletive] beyond belief. Then it got short bus [expletive] when he used his illness as a defense.

Hendry has 1000000000000 Cub fans giving him advice/encourgement/angst and just about every emotion in the book. He doesen't need or want anyone calling him, unless they're a fellow GM.
