When Rogers picked his All-City team, he selected Crede over Ramirez at 3B and Guillen over Lou for manager. Lou ran circles around Ozzie and I guess I don't have to mention what happened in the 3B competition.

i had an argument with a sox fan about crede vs. ramirez and it was the easiest argument i ever had. i mentioned the discrepancy in ops and he said that ops+ was a better indicator, so i posted the discrepancy in their ops+, then he said that weighted ops was a better metric, so i weighted obp at 1.2 and posted the discrepancy. he stopped responding after that.

the sheer fact that some people would choose crede over ramirez is a testament to the truthiness of the game of baseball.

That's hilarious.

I'm stunned a Sox fan knew what OPS was.

During the game yesterday, Jon Miller and Joe Morgan were talking about how great Crede is defensively and his stats were posted on the screen. He was the lowest fielding percentage as a 3B and the most errors in the AL. Ooops. But don't let facts get in the way of a great argument.

he was legitimately a very good fielder, but it seems like the back injury has turned him into a pretty average fielder at this point. meanwhile, his bat has always been pretty mediocre, but it's been very good this year. kinda weird.

but yeah, aramis is easy the better of the two players, and to pick otherwise is stupid.

Many of them know what it is. It's figuring out that a higher OPS is better than lower is what gets them. They keep getting OPS and ERA backwards, they like higher ERAs too.

Where was this argument taking place, I'm not sure I've ever had an argument about baseball where the other guy brought up ops+ or weighted ops.

Since OPS+ directly corresponds to OPS, a discrepancy in OPS corresponds to a discrepancy in OPS+ and vice-versa.

If both OPS's were from the same league and year.

my favorite part of the game was when Jon Miller mentioned someone's OPS (maybe Soto's), and Joe Morgan was silent then gave an awkward laugh.

Berman did the same thing a few weeks ago when Gammons mentioned it. Cavemen morons.

Not sure about team. You normalize both OBP and SLG with the ballpark-adjusted league average, which is a constant for everyone in the same league and year, regardless of team.

Anyways, I'd like to retract my post. The formula for OPS+ is more complicated than what I said (though too complicated).
