Yeah, I really wouldn't mind it if Marmol took a week off. His fastball was barely touching 90.

I think that was just the WGN gun. The PitchFX data on Gameday had his fastball consistently at 92-94 that inning.

That's what CSN had as well.

That makes me feel a little better. Still, his arm slot is lower than it has ever been which is an indication of fatigue.

This is the first time a CUBS pitcher has had more than 1 hit in a game since 02 June in San Diego when Zambrano had 3.

Go CUBS !!

Actually Z has a couple multi hit games this year already including a 4 hit game.

....but not since the second of June, eh?

I'm not sure more time off is the answer for control problems. If his arm is shredded, the damage is done at this point.

Light but regular use until he figures it out would seem about right.

I agree, if you give him a ton of time off he's just gonna pile on more rust, IMO.

Don't use him tomorrow, we have the day off Monday, and hopefully we only need him for an inning or two against Baltimore.

So what's the over/under on a Marmol injury?

60% chance? 65?

With the kind of stuff he just showed? Pretty low I'd say. That looked like 2006 Marmol there when he was starting for the Cubs. Every pitch was nasty, but he didn't know where it was going.

Marmol's had periods like this every year of his career (maybe not compressed so well into 2 outings, but definitely huge control problems at times). He was just never "the guy" before, and so they were much less noticable.

Alright let's end this thing unceremoniously and then go watch the Cards get beat up by the BoSox. I can think of no better way to end my Saturday afternoon.

I read that as "then go watch the Cards beat up on the BoSox. I can think of no better way to end my Saturday afternoon." I got mad at you for a second.

people realize marmol used to start right

And???

Relievers who started in the past (most relievers were starters in the minors) are just as exposed to injuries from overuse as if they had not started.

With that said, I don't think he is injured but I have questioned his usage patterns early on.

I'm like 80% sure that if we sweep the White Sox, the Cardinals will sweep the Red Sox

They refuse to give an inch, although they helpfully got swept by the Royals this week.

I said that to my Cards friend. I told him I fully expect them to sweep the Red Sox to make up getting swept by the Royals.

Strange how Lieber has been one of our more consistant relievers, yet rarely gets on the mound.

It seems like Lou is always trying to save him for extras or if our starter gets rocked early. One inning here and there isn't going to impact Lieber that much.
