I struggle to see why a coach who just took his team to the Elite 8 (Mike Anderson) or a coach who has incredibly fertile recruiting grounds (Tim Floyd) would jump ship, though.

memphis is as fertile as la and there isnt a better school in the same city ala ucla.

I strongly disagree that Memphis is as fertile a recruiting ground as the LA metro.

Yeah, that's just not true.

Between IM conversations with Arizona fans and this thread, I'm pretty speechless.

I still don't know who they hired or if they hired anyone.

They haven't hired anyone.

ETA: Tim Floyd is in Tucson meeting with the Arizona AD as we speak.

Yeah I heard that too. That sure would be interesting to bolt to another team that lies in the same conference as your former school.

Phoenix and LA radio are both reporting Tim Floyd will be the next head coach at Arizona. It is expected to be announced tomorrow.

I liked Timmy better at USC. I hope Jaime Dixon doesn't go to USC. :?

Is that the rumor? I wouldn't bet on Dixon leaving Pitt except to go to a real 'name' basketball school, which USC is not, but you may know something I don't.

Dixon grew up in LA. USC certainly isn't a move up from Pitt but it's a move home.

So that's why he agreed to sign Lil Romeo

Except for the population difference of around 12M or so.

the whole idea of Cal bringing his recruits along to Kentucky--especially the ones who signed LOIs--is pretty gross. Has that happened a lot in the past?

I believe it has. Maybe not all of them following the coach, but at the very least the school lets them out of the LOI. When Anderson came to Mizzou I think UAB let Tiller out of his LOI to follow him here.

it sure makes the idea of ncaa basketball being for "student-athletes" seem pretty comical. but we pretty much knew that already.

If coaches can jump schools without punishment, why shouldn't the athletes who made their college choice assumedly in large part due to the coach be able to make the jump too?

From what I've heard, Kentucky will have to give several players the boot if they're going to get Calipari's Memphis recruits because they only have 1 scholarship available for next year. That will be an interesting situation if they do it. I'd love to hear the PR spin put on that one, assuming nobody leaves of their own free will or academic issues.

Wow. Rick Pitino. Memphis just isn't that kind of program. And to think I was just about ready to hand RedFlash the award for most delusional fan.

I'm not delusional. I'm passing on what the Commercial Appeal is reporting.

If you actually believe Memphis has more than a snowball's chance in hell of landing Pitino without drastically improving their basketball standing, you are being delusional.

No way am i delusional. I really believe that if Phil Jackson turns them down, Pitino's coming.

Phil Jackson?!?!?!?!

Yeah, i was joking about Phil Jackson.

Doing thing the right way Tom Crean took Nick Williams from Marquette.

i WILL say this about self, he didn't take any previously committed recruits with him to ku. charlie villanueva ended up decommitting and going elsewhere.

my big problem with the whole mess is that we paid him for 3 years to build recruiting inroads for kansas in chicago. i guess that's the way things work, but it pisses me off that the state of illinois funded his national championship at another school.

c'est la vie. i'm a cub fan, too.

He tried to get CV to go with him. CV worked out here and was abused by Nick Collison, which makes sense as Nick was about to be a lotto pick. CV said that the fans here were pretty brutal on him and then UCONN offered. I remember Whitlock ran an article about it.

There's a reference to it, can't find the Whitlock one though.

Memphis just offered Bruce Peal 7 years and 21 million. No way he turns it down.

He'd be stupid to turn it down.

And Memphis is stupid to offer it.

I agree he'd be stupid to turn it down. If you're Memphis though you have to overpay to lure a coach from a big six conference.

Arizona fans in total meltdown mode :): http://mbd.scout.com/mb.aspx?s=106&f=1668&t=4170915

Read it as well...Well I will not support Arizona basketball until he is gone....It kills me to say that but I cannot support that Slimey P.O.S.

Was Ernie Kent not available?

If Tim Floyd is in fact Livengood's choice for head basketball coach, he's just put the program in the toilet for at least five years. But of course most everyone knows Livengood is an idiot. And if President Shelton permits this travesty to take place, he's an idiot too.

yeah, floyd must take a hypno-coin around with him to job interviews. but he's a solid, if not spectacular college coach.

but i can see why a big time program like arizona wouldn't want to take a chance on a guy like capel. once capel gets a huge job like zona, and is successful, he becomes coach k's successor. arizona didn't want to be used as a stepping stone.
