Would it be crazy to pick North Dakota State over Kansas?

Only if you believe they'll have real home court advantage and can hit their 3s.

Aldrich has the potential to destroy them.

Clemson has been playing terrible lately. They started out the year like gangbusters but have since cooled way off. Ill take Mich by 10

I have Clemson in the Elite Eight. That team is too talented to not only beat Michigan but to give Oklahoma a good run in the 2nd round.

As for Illinois I don't have them beating Gonzaga, especially with the game at Portland. I'm not worried about the WKU game at all though.

if so, i'm crazy.

kansas is mainly young guys, nd state is mainly seniors. nd state is going to be the "home" team, what with most of their players being from the minneapolis area. that's my logic, and i'm sticking to it. of course, all that's out the window if the kid from chicago (sharon collins or something?) goes off.

I don't see how NDSU can match up with Aldrich. They might keep it close for a while but I see Kansas pulling away in the 2nd half.

they shoot alot of threes, and shoot them well. aldrich can control the paint, but kansas is going to have to get production from outside of it as well. and they're going to have to stop the three.

that's what it's going to come down to. if NDSU comes out hitting their 3's they are going to be pumped and the crowd will be all over it. but if they start out cold, aldrich will rip them completely apart and they'll have no answer on either side of the ball.

I picked NDSU as well, but they don't rely on the three that much, they're actually 240th in the country 3PA/FGA. Woodside takes the most, but the best part of his game might be going in and getting to the FT line. In his 60 point game vs Stephen F. Austin (13th in Pomeroy adjusted D) he went 2/6 from 3 and 30/35 from the line. Their defense will have a hard time w/ Aldrich of course, and that's probably why they will lose, but they looked like the best major upset candidate I could find.

deron just hit a shot, i think that was good because it's tied up now.

My biggest gripe with those Big Ten Classics is that it's not in HD.

no kidding. 90-84 with 1:35 to go, we might pull this one out.

ooh, hassan gets a bucket and a freebie.

You know, with the insulting snubs of mid majors this year (Creighton and/or St. Marys), I've taken the liberty of thinking of a good way to expand the tournament. In 2014, a new conference will get an automatic bid to the NCAA tournament: the Great West Conference. That brings the total number of auto bids up to 32. Since I doubt the NCAA would want to take away an at-large bid just like the last time a conference was added, changes will be made to the tournament anyways. Here is what I hope happens.

There are 32 automatic bids. These 32 bids are the winners of the conference tournament, with the exception of the Ivy League, which doesn't have a tournament. They get placed into the 64 team tournament.

The remaining 32 teams are determined by 32 at-large games, consisting of 64 teams. The regular season conference champions that did not win their conference tournament are automatically selected into these at-large games. The rest of the teams are purely at-large selections. A committee will select these at-large teams, and after the at-large games are played, will re-seed the remaining 64 teams. You can put the losing 32 teams into the NIT.

Does anybody see anything more unfair about this postseason than the current one? Any comments?

Well it's probably a fairer treatment of mid majors but I think it would lead to an inferior field.

i like it. the more i think about it, the more i get po'd by the fact that a team can dominate their regular season and then have a bad game and be out of the dance. totally unfair, but you don't want to lessen the excitement of the conference tourney games. however, there needs to be some sort of exemption for ranked, major conference teams.

The conference champion would not have to play the at-large game, so there is still an incentive to win the conference tournament. For lower-level conference teams, it is a HUGE incentive.

Eh, I think the chances are rather slim for it to lead to an inferior field. If you're worthy of a top 4 seed, chances are you are going to get matched up with the 60 - 80th best team in the country for an at-large game. That game should be a cakewalk, and if it's not, it will be one hell of an exciting game.

But that means that you have typically 8 of the top 10 teams in the nation having to win 1 more game than a minor conference school who played well over a 3 day span to win the national title. That's pretty unfair.

There would be very little incentive to be in a major conference that way. Why would you want all that competition when you could dominate a minor conference and get an automatic bye every year in the tourney?

Plus..then you have a bunch of situations where a Pittsburgh for example has a decent at-large game to start, and then their second round game after the re-seeding is a cakewalk. You never want a tournament where the second round opponents are likely to be easier than the first for the top seeds, and this one would have that.

I would love to see more mid-majors get in as well and I think the scheduling issue is a big problem (if more teams were willing to schedule decent mid majors, they would have more big wins to take to the committee at the end of the year). But I see this as a solution that tilts it far further in the other direction then it is right now.
