the big east picture is becoming more clear with notre dame losing a must-win game and cincy losing at south florida. barring a big run in the tourney, they're out, so you've got 7 teams definitely in (uconn, pitt, louisville, villanova, marquette, west virginia, syracuse), 1 team squarely on the bubble (providence) and then the rest probably out. georgetown could be a bit of a wild card though - they have to win their last two (@ st john's, home against depaul) and that would put them at 17-12 (8-10). not great but if they make a run in the big east tourney, they end up with 19 or 20 wins and a handful of elite wins as well (memphis, @uconn, @nova).

What does a loss to Iowa do to OSU's chances (if it happens and I think it will)?

OSU doesn't have any bad losses, but they've only beaten 2 lock tourney teams(Butler and Purdue). Doesn't torpedo them, but I think it means they have to beat NU this weekend, and win 2 in the BTT to lock themselves in. 20-10 and they'd be at the mercy of other conference tourneys.

I think they win though.

Yeah, about that...

The Big East is doing a great job of limiting their number of bids tonight.

I don't think the Big East is as good as people try to make it out to be. Although College basketball in general seems to have 4-5 good top teams with the other teams not being that great. Combine that with the mid-majors being down compared to other years and I think we see few upsets in the tournament this year.

Only one worse seeded team wins in their conference tourney today(UIC a 6 over Youngstown St. a 5). Most importantly, VMI won. I really want to see them in the tourney with their Marymount offense. They face Stephon Curry's brother's Liberty team on Thursday in the semis.

I can't believe I wasn't able to watch the FSU-Duke game on ESPN tonight. I mean, why wouldn't you have the best game of the night on national TV?

I would agree with this only because the media, especially Jay Bilas and a couple others, are trying to make it out like ND and Georgetown were both tremendous teams that just got the will beat out of them by how good the Big East was. In reality, the Irish and Hoyas were both very flawed teams whose flaws were exposed by good teams in the conference.

I think the Big East is probably the best league in the country, even with the horrible four at the bottom (I'm biased, obviously), but it's not even close to the gap that ESPN makes it out to be. (It should be noted that since ESPN has a huge contract with the Big East that it would benefit them to have people THINK the Big East is some mega-league that's head and shoulders above everybody.)

ESPN has a huge chub for Notre Dame and they refuse to admit that the team is exceedingly mediocre. It's really tiring

And the Big Ten has their own network, which both competes with ESPN(s) and if successful will cause other conferences to start their own networks.

What the hell is Crean doing? Call the timeout right away or let them play. You just wasted 8 seconds not setting up a shot.

Our anti-clutch team would have missed the final shot anyways.

I think Roth should be in the damn game for the last 5 minutes or whatever when it is a close contest. I mean I know the defense keys on him and we set poor screens but there is always the dumb luck chance he could get lucky and get an open look and I'd pretty confident he would hit the clutch shots unlike most of the rest of the team.

Sounds like what a bunch of UCLA fans say about FSN, the Pac-10 and ESPN. Heh.

Seriously the more we keep losing the more optimistic I'm getting about the future. 6 of the last 7 games we've really played pretty well. We have 2 wins in that stretch and a bunch of close losses with a mega short-handed roster. We're so close with so many guys having to play 40 minutes and no bench.

I'm kind of holding out hope that we can be kind of like Illinois last year to this year. Both lost a ton of close games, both had some injuries but returned most of their roster and went 5-13 the previous year. Basketball Prospectus has shown the track record for teams returning 90% of their minutes is that they usually make a large jump the next year. We'll return 93% of our minutes from this year.
