I think UCLA, ASU and USC will be fine by the end of the season.

But the Pac-10 has a bad Arizona team (:)), the Oregon schools and Stanford. That's some horrible talent at the bottom of the conference. I don't know much about the SEC but I don't think they have such poor play at the bottom of the conference.

Pretty disappointing final 8 minutes in the SIU game. We got within 5 until that play happened where Duke saved the ball 3 times and drew a foul. We just folded after that. Very painful finish to that game.

I'll be driving back home tomorrow, so I won't have to witness the beatdown that UCLA is going to give us.

Watched the UI game and came away impressed with the team. DMac is awesome. Frazier played pretty well, I know he still wasn't good, but for him he played a good game. Shot the open shot and didn't kill the offense too much. I know he can't shoot, but he has to be a threat and let it rip to keep the other teams honest. Otherwise they can play a spot shooter the whole game and let him not guard anyone. Davis played well, that was a big team that he went up against and he had about 4 shots go in and out.

Oh and we made free throws.

The Ben Howland patented craptacular offensive game. The guy can flat out coach a man to man defense but UCLA has wayyyy too manny scoring droughts given their talent level.

I'm just pissed that Jrue is clearly the best player on the team and he had 2 shots in the second half. He needs to be more like Love last year and not worry what toes he's stepping on. Josh Shipp is absolutely not a #2 option on a top 15 team. Plus this team has NO inside presence. I don't know that you can say this is Howland's fault.

I think Howland is an outstanding coach. However, the issues you mention are all directly within Howland's control.

I doubt UCLA will be be giving SIU a "beatdown." Should be a close game.

Probably, I'm just agitated right now - much like I'm sure you are. Like I said earlier, I didn't think we'd beat Duke, but I'm also really pissed at the way we closed that game out. That final score looks really deceiving.

So who's worse, SEC or Pac 10?

This is my problem with most Big 10 fans- especially the ones here. Everything is "conference this" and "conference that," as though "conferences" win anything. I realize that there are tons of SEC fans who flap their gums about being the best conference in the world in football, but the raging inferiority complex that Big 10 fans display is stinking hilarious. Seriously, you've made the point- you have tiny e-dongs.

That said, I don't get it. Who cares which conference is better or worse? Last time I checked the Pac 10 doesn't play the SEC. Nor does the Big 10 play the Big 12. And, despite the name of the "challenge", the Big East does not play the ACC. Individual teams play one another, and how Tennessee fares (or UCLA, or Illinois, or Kansas, or... well, you get it) is not a product of the conference. The Big 10 hasn't been humiliated in the National Championship the past two years- Ohio St. has. The SEC didn't win any championships. Florida and LSU did. As a Tennessee fan, what should it matter to me that Ohio State got spanked by those teams? So did UT.

The Big 12 is not the reigning National Champion. Kansas is. Why should Texas or Oklahoma or Missouri or any other Big 12 schools fans brag about that? Their team didn't win anything. They just lost to the team that did.

I just don't get it. And I know that SEC fans are guilty of it, especially in football. That doesn't make sense to me either. If Florida destroys Oklahoma or Texas in the National Championship game, am I going to walk around pounding my chest about it? Heck no, I hate Florida. It just doesn't make sense to me.

Conferences are college's divisions. Do you not care if the NL is better than the AL? Do you not care that the Central is better than any other division?

Plus where the heck are you getting this from the post you quoted. All he says is the UM-Duke game will likely leave only one conference completely undefeated. Why are you taking that as a Big Ten fan with an inferiority complex? It could be just as likely he is pumped for the ACC to perhaps be the only undefeated team.

No, I don't care if the NL is better than the AL. If the Cubs don't win the World Series, am I supposed to take solace in the fact that the Phillies did? The Cardinals? Why? They aren't the Cubs.

And, no, that was not all he said. Nor was this post (in spite of the quote) directed at only this post. SSR has a history (as do a few others- mostly Illinois fans) of "inferiority complex posts," primarily regarding the SEC. More than any other poster, he takes jab after jab at "SEC fans", and I find it humorous.

Call it a reply to a body of work, and if you are unfamiliar with that body, I can certainly understand the confusion.

That's fine you don't care about divisions but a large majority of sports fans do. If you want to rant about people having inferiority complex's (which many people do here) fine by me but ranting about people rooting for their conference is pointless. The reason I root for other Big Ten teams is because it will help Purdue out not only in SOS since they play them later but it helps the conference and thus every team in it look better which matters when it comes to seeding.

NCAA Basketball is completely different. I don't "pound my chest" because Michigan and Illinois won last night. But I am pleased to see it. Why?

Because the more good non-conference wins Big Ten teams get, the higher the league RPI will be, plus it means they probably won't get bashed as much on national tv. Conference RPI and conference strength plays a major part in whether or not your team gets a bid to the NCAA's. Likewise beating SEC and Pac-10 teams will hurt their cause a little bit which indirectly can help your team even more.

When it comes to football, the more bowl teams the Big Ten has, the better it is for each school in the conference. Bowl money gets paid to the conference, and is divided up 11 ways, with each school getting a share. So there is some benefit to having other teams in the conference succeed.

Agreed, Sulley who's minutes does Legion take? I am hoping it's Brock and Frazier.

Well Raisin, you probably didn't want to be, but you were right. You were completely right. UCLA didn't look at all comfortable against the 1-3-1. Duke seems to be a more rounded team at this point in the season, they should handle Michigan easily. It's just nice to get a win over a top 5 team after the crap that was the football season.

Edit: BTW, the name Jrue is probably the coolest name ever. It replaces D'Brickashaw as my favorite first name of all time.

This is why. If I'm a borderline NCAA team in the Big 10, I am rooting for Michigan to beat a Top 5 team and raise their conference RPI so my team has a better shot at getting into the dance. If I am a top flight NCAA team in the Big 10, I am rooting for Michigan to beat a Top 5 team and raise their conference RPI so my team can get a higher seed in the dance.

Besides money -- which is just a little important -- the extra exposure and good press impacts recruiting. Conference strength is incredibly important in college sports.

I'm stunned that the SEC homer snapped because I asked if they were worse than the Pac 10. Odd that Raisin didn't snap at the question.

And body of work my ass, I spend so much time arguing against the SEC because of people like Hosak and RedFlash who feel Sylvester Croom is at worst the 12th best coach in college football.

Was that question about which conference was worse really that hateful? This was coming from a guy who thought the Big Ten was as awful as its ever been heading into this season. I have all of 4 Big Ten teams making the tourney.

I answered truthfully...the SEC can't possibly have teams as bad as Oregon State and Stanford at the bottom of their pile. I see a few top 20 teams in each conference but I don't see any top 5 teams like the ACC and Big East has.

thank god

Duke would have beaten UCLA by 20, why would you be worried?

I doubt that.

Duke just isn't that good either.

No, Duke isn't great but they have great matchup advantages over UCLA right now.
