Purdue National Champions!!!

Hey we actually have a good shot for the first time since say 2000. Same starting lineup and the only two players gone are Terrance Crump who sucked and Scott Martin. Over 81% of our scoring is back, 85% of rebounding, and 80% assisting. Plus all the freshman and sophomores (4 of 5 starters) from last year are now one year older and the two that are gone were our two worst shooters from last year. Gonna be a good year, especially considering where IU is.

SIU's also going to have like 87 freshmen, so I'm sure we'll experience plenty of growing pains this year. However, our recruiting class for this year was heralded as being one of the top 25 in the nation, so I'm really excited to see these guys develop. We'll probably be picked 3rd or 4th in the MVC this year, but I really believe that by the time conference play starts, we'll be settled in.

We also accepted an invite to the Coaches vs Cancer pre-season tournament along with the likes of UCLA, Duke, and Michigan, so I'm pretty excited about that. I'd love to get our freshmen some experience against the likes of UCLA and Duke early on.

hopefully holy cross can make the ncaa tourney again. bucknell's coach, who is an a-hole, retired for health reasons. i hope he doesn't die soon; that's all i have to say about that.

What was the problem with Flannery?

he missed 2 games in 2004-05, 5 games in 2005-06 and 2 more last year, mostly because of falling ill during games. skip prosser's son was a coach on the bucknell staff, so that probably hit home as well. anyway, he's going to be a fundraiser for bucknell, and i hope that he's a miserable failure in that, and that the new coach of bucknell does a terrible job and runs that program into the ground.

ND has everyone but Rob Kurz back (including the best returning player outside Chapel Hill), so I'm thinking 4 or 3 seed this year, possibly an Elite Eight run with a good NCAA draw.

1. UNC

2. Pitt

3. UCLA

4. Notre Dame

5. Louisville

I enjoy the media love - ND's been projected top 5 numerous times - but I don't see them being THAT good. Although if they were, that ND/UCLA matchup would be a-MAZ-ing.

Ball State will suck again.

Quite the contrary with some actually size I think Ball State might actually be decent in the MAC. That being because the MAC blows chunks right now.

Purdue is 8th in that which I think is about right and I would put ND right with them. Both of them are top 5-10 teams right now since they were both top 20 last year and return practically everyone.

That is one of the biggest debates to me coming into the season. Who's the best in the basketball state. It can go either way to me. ND has the more consistent, safer, performed well already team while Purdue has the did just as well as ND team last year and with relying on so many freshman could leapfrog past them (especially if JaJuan Johnson has packed on muscle).

Indiana will...uh, I don't even want to think about it.

really? It's one of the things I'm looking forward to most. It's like ND football 07.

Yeah, I'm one of those crazy fans that hopes his team wins.

I'm just one of those normal fans who revel in my rival's torment.

Not that anyone really cares, but UC Davis will have a shot in the Big West. They have a transfer from Notre Dame, Joe Harden, and one from Hawaii, Todd Lowenthal, who will both be eligible this year. The reporter from our paper on the beat right now (which will be mine in a few weeks \:D/ ) has said since last year that these two will be two of the top three on the team this coming year if not the two best. UCD also has another transfer from a JC who should be solid as well.

So basically, they won't be the worst team in the Big West again.

Yeah I'm aware of his health problems, I mean why did you dislike him so much?

IU brings back a whopping 0.7 PPG and 1 scholarship player, who just earned his scholarship in January. There is no 08-09 season.

quite the contrary this is the most I've looked forward to watching IU basketball in a long time, maybe ever

We could be good, we could be bad. It just depends on how quickly Legion can get going in the second half of the year. Two years from now we will be ridiculous. Oh, and Luke Harangody is not the best player besides Hansbrough coming back. He is good, but not that good. Edited by illiniguy

we get it.

yeah, not looking forward to this season, but i'm going to try to look at it as a season (or two) of basically exhibition games and not get too upset until Crean has a chance to bring in the players he wants.

I keep waiting for a good big guy to show up on Duke's campus and it just never happens.

It's going to be a problem for us again this year. We have Singler that can play the 4 just fine. But after that, our options at center are Lance Thomas, Brian Zoubek, Miles Plumlee, and Olek Cyzk. Nothing excites me from that group, all we did was add depth.

We do return everybody except for DeMarcus Nelson. He was arguably our best player but that's debatable. Elliot Williams should be able to replace most of that production and Gerald Henderson will probably take the rest of it. Henderson is going to break out in a big way. He carried us at the end of the WVU and Belmont games last year. He has always had the potential but no consistency. I think this year he will be excellent. I see us starting around 10 and hovering there the entire year
