i still don't understand why he gets any pitches on the outer half of the plate.

Yeah, I'm not sure how that keeps happening either. The only thing I can figure is that he has a very good eye and lets a lot of pitches go that are inside off the edge, so that leaves a smaller margin for error between pitching inside and leaving the ball right over the plate. If he keeps lofting opposite field home runs they're going to have to do something different.

His line is now at a sparkling .292/.387/.594 so far this season...

And again... his BABIP is a mere .288 in his time with the Cubs, despite his LD% being 20.5%... which would imply his BABIP should be closer to .325. In other words, his line looks that good in spite of the fact that he's been robbed of three hits by bad luck. He should be batting closer to .321/.411/.632.

yes but he's also slow as hell and unlikely to have a standard LD%-BABIP correlation.

A-Clown,

He still showboats, he still watches his home runs, and he's probably still a primadonna. The only difference is that Edmonds now plays for the Cubs.

BTW, Rodman never played for the Cubs.

I suppose he fits in perfectly with the Cubs. Ramirez, Soriano, even Sosa.

Yes, Rodman played for the Bulls, and you loved him when he did.

And A-Clown? Can't we get along, living in the same great city of Memphis? ;)

Bernie Miklasz chimes in on the how Cards' fans should respond to the the return of Edmonds.

what an [expletive] is miklasz.

go jimmy

Does the guy know how to write a paragraph with more than one sentence? Damon was cheered when he first played against the Red Sox and everytime after he's just another Yankee.

Can we get to the important part of the discussion?

How on earth did the Cubs get Edmonds to stop showboating, pausing to watch his homers, etc? Did Zambrano kick the crap out of him, whip him with his belt?

Or, did the Cubs fans who have long hated Edmonds, just realize that maybe, just maybe, he's not the primadonna they made him out to be?

I guess there is a third option - that they are hypocrites and have become Jimmy fans like they did Rodman in 1996.

Edmonds is showing signs of age, and is much slower now..obviously. Though he cant make every play a highlight job, he'll swan dive for a few this year and have you clappin..maybe in St Louis this weekend. Im sure he's up for that!

What's really funny or odd, is reading here the last several years and the Cub fans calling him gay, that he wears eyeliner/makeup...my how that tide has turned.

Should be some good ball games this weekend. Happy 4th to all.

Who was the moronic announcer that said all Edmonds has contributed to the cubs is power -- his average is bad, etc?? I think it was the Giant's crew.

Edmonds is hitting a nice .290 or so with the Cubs and has an OPS of .973.

Keep it going, Jimmy!

Does this guy know that Edmonds wanted to stay in St Louis?

This is true... sorta... although Edmonds loved playing in STL he asked to be traded after he found out he might be moved from CF and his playing time wasn't guaranteed.

Oh and Bernie a fat pig drama queen hack.

I've said why Cards fans should applaud him and I don't think that my reasons are just for show. You keep trying to bait me with the classy organization stereotype, I really don't understand it. Just because some Cards fans are quick to point out that our fans are indeed very observant and respectful doesn't mean that every display of "class" is done simply to keep the reputation in tact. I'm gonna put this little guy in here as my last point. :stickman:

I've been to 19 MLB ballparks, and I've attended hundreds of games in STL in my lifetime. Your fans are no more respectful or observant than the majority of the other fans out there. It becomes obnoxious when they are quick to acknowledge how observant and respectful they think they are...

If you read what I said I never used a superlative in regard to our fans versus others. I just said very observant and respectful, which if you refute you haven't been to or watched any Cards games w/o a severe Cubs bias. Our fans ARE respectful and observant just like I assume your fans are. Since I rarely watch Cubs home games that don't involve the Birds I can't comment past seeing the rowdy fans that are there during Cards games (just as ours are rowdy during Cubs games).

Bernie is quite often a turd. Like I said I think he should get the standing O his first at-bat back here (even though he returned w/SD) and after that he can be treated as a Cub(booed) or as Jimmy Ballgame(cheered), I don't care.

TLR is either really dumb, or was just drunk when he said that. Either way it makes no sense.

you're right, that makes absolutely no sense. of course he'll want to not be considered a cardinal until he retires. he probably won't be a cardinal again in his active career. unless larussa wasn't trying to be facetious with those comments and was actually stating the truth.

sun-times said that the cards had a deal to send edmonds to the white sox last year, but edmonds wouldn't waive his ntc to go there.

http://www.suntimes.com/sports/baseball/cubs/1040768,CST-SPT-cubnt05.article

Edmonds said he got a call from St. Louis management in the week after the winter meetings in December asking him to waive his no-trade rights for a deal involving the Sox.

''They told me I was traded to the White Sox, and that I had an hour to OK it, and I told them I needed more than that,'' said Edmonds, who had asked for a trade closer to his Southern California home after being told he didn't play a big part in the Cardinals' 2008 plans.

''I was sitting on the beach one day with my family, running around with my son, and they told me I had an hour to decide whether I wanted to play with the White Sox or not,'' he said.

It's unclear what the deal was, although the Cards were said to be interested in Juan Uribe at that time.

''I needed more time, and they kept pushing me and pushing me,'' he said, ''and I said, I can't answer that question today, so obviously I guess I can say no.''

The next day he was traded, with cash, to San Diego for infielder David Freese -- a deal he later says he was told by Padres officials had been worked out for weeks.

Interested in Juan Uribe? Really? Wow. Just wow.

I'm pretty sure I'd rather have him than Izturis, who they wound up with.

Both made 4.15M last season.

This year:

Cardinals are paying Izturis 2.85M

White Sox are paying Uribe 4.5M

I'll take Izturis.
