I'm so glad to see this guy performing well for us. I think all of the people who want to dislike him or never warm up to him because of his past with the Cardinals are just lost and need to realize we have far too big of a goal in front of us to worry about where one of our guys USED to play.

It's amazing how many Cubs fans have pulled a John McCain and totally flip/flopped on Edmonds.

It's amazing how I've posted less than 10 times and [deleted] like you are acting like you know I didn't support him from the start.

Besides.... Mitt Romney was the flip flopper.....

Not to get into a political debate but if you know what McCain was saying 2 years ago (and the rest of the time he has been office) and what he is saying today he is the kind flip-flopper. From wanting to unify the parties and voting democrat 30% of the time on issues to being all about Republicans and only Republican issues.

Please don't use language like that. Also, my interpretation is that mjohnson was agreeing with you more than he was calling you a flip-flopper.

I apologize, and maybe that is what he meant, but when what I wrote is quoted and then he says what he says... it's hard for me to interpret in any other way than I did. But I post this question to all the Edmonds nay sayers. Would you rather win a World Series this year? or Make sure we don't have any former Cardinal standouts on our team?

McCain may be flip flopping a bit more now.... But Mitt Romney is THE definition of flip flopper.

I'm one of the people who hated the Edmonds signing, as anyone who saw my post that lasted maybe thirty seconds knows.

My reasons for hating the signing were two-fold: first, I've never liked Edmonds; second, I thought he was going to completely suck. I didn't want to have to watch a player I hate suck for my team. Therefore, I hated the signing with every ounce of my being.

Now that he's productive, I like him just like I like all Cubs. He doesn't suck, so I can forgive all the other things about him. I still will make my sarcastic, tongue-in-cheek jabs at him, but I've not only grown to accept him, I will root for him. My opposition was rooted in both my feelings that he would suck and my dislike for Edmonds the ballplayer. Now, that he hasn't sucked and has actually contributed to some Cubs' wins, I can overlook my dislike for Edmonds the ballplayer.

Leaving the political discussion completely aside, I don't see CUBS fans as the flip-floppers here. The only flip-flop was by Edmonds when he took off the red uniform and put on a blue one. I for one, always cheer and root for the guys in the blue uniforms. I've never wavered on that point. Given a short period for adjustment, I think nearly all CUBS fans follow the same linear logic.

All that being said..... it still does feel a bit strange to cheer for Jim Edmonds.... but, whatever.

I wish Edmonds had been on the Cubs when he was still awesome. As soon as the player puts on the Cubs uniform, I'm all for them.

Well said.

There is that small segment of fans that when he was signed were making statements to the effect that they would never root for him and would boo every time he came to the plate and things of that nature. At this point they are probably wearing Edmonds jerseys to go with their racist Fukudome headbands so they are probably the "flip floppers" being mentioned. However, I have to say I don't really get the whole flip flop thing. They hated Edmonds because he sucked and had been negative toward the Cubs. Now he is good and helping the Cubs so they have changed their opinion of him. In this gotcha world people are supposed to have one opinion and stick with it forever I guess, even if the FACTS surrounding the original opinion have changed or been proven to be different than first known.

Ozzie continues to be an ass. RE: Edmonds:

"He just had a good day. I'm not going to promote the guy who is hitting .218 (actually .238), " White Sox manager Ozzie Guillen said of Edmonds.

"I'd rather have him out there than (injured Alfonso) Soriano. He's a veteran player and he knows what he's doing ... Hopefully he doesn't have another game like that against us. Jim doesn't scare me. I'll pitch to him anytime."

Edmonds had a good quote, though:

"Whenever you get done tying me to the Cardinals, it'll be fine so I can start getting a little bit of Cubs' history in my background," Edmonds said. "It's a great win."

Ozzie just intentionally walked Edmonds. Guess he's scarier than he thought.

What happened to my original post? How come it's no longer on the board? If people are still holding anything against Edmonds, just because he was once a Cardinal-- need to get over it. That's so childish not to be able to forgive.

I don't get it. Why would the Mods replace my original post with Cubbiebum's? Doesn't make any sense.

The threads were merged, CubbieBum's came earlier so it's posts are first. Here's your post: viewtopic.php?p=1827372#p1827372

Sorry everyone. I definitely overreacted.

From Peter Gammons latest blog entry:

The whole Cubs thing is great, but why would Jim Edmonds ever have been hated just because he played for St. Louis in between stops in Anaheim and San Diego? His time with the Cubs could be a significant factor in the second half, especially considering the Cubs picked him up after he was released. Two things happened. First, Edmonds spent the offseason in SWAT team training with Skip Schumaker. "I can't believe what we did," says Edmonds. "I never appreciated how much we use our legs, and how important leg strength is." Second, when Edmonds was released by the Padres, he stopped using the medicine he'd taken for nearly two years after suffering concussions in St. Louis. "Right away, I felt the difference."

Honestly I hated Edmonds, but I still pulled for him when he first got to the Cubs. He frustrated the living hell out of because his first few weeks with the Cubs, he was terrrible. I still pulled for him the entire time though, and now I like him even more mostly because he actually good now. But even th9ugh most Cubs fans didn't like him, they still all pulled for him.

A better question would be how Cardinals fans will react when he goes back to St. Louis.

he'll be booed because he's on the Cubs now plus he said some negative things when they traded him

I remember when John Mabry first returned... he got a standing O. John Mabry. Edmonds will be cheered pretty loudly.
