I think it was a great time to bring him in. Toronto had just got 3 straight hits and were a hit or two away from making this a close game. Bring him in and shut it down hopefully.

Why not let Marquis or Lieber face the 9th hitter? You have a 6 run lead with 6 outs to go, no reason to throw your best reliever.

A couple hits and it's a 2 or 3 run game. A 6 run lead with six outs to go becomes a lot different when you mention that the bases are loaded with no outs.

I might have let Marquis throw to the 9th place hitter. No way I bring Lieber in with the bases loaded and 2 out of the next 3 hitters being left-handers. Anyway, if you do go to 1 of those 2 pitchers, and he gives up a base hit to the 9 hitter, now you are in a situation where you likely will have to use both Marmol and Wood today. By cutting that off at the pass, now you just hopefully use just 1 of them for 1 inning.

Lou you are going to be so damn sorry at the end of the season. But you wont even realize, you'll have an injured or dead-armed Marmol and not understand why he'll be pitching poorly.

Well thank God Howry is up in the pen. I really figured Lou would send Marmol out there for the 9th. Hes done it before

Not in the past week and a half though. Marmol has started being pulled in the middle of innings even while being effective, or only being allowed to face one batter. Lou has clearly decided that he needs to save his arm a little more than he has been. If you look at the situations, there has been a huge change in Marmol's usage patters recently.

marmol really likely needed the work just to keep the rust off, relax

Marmol has pitched 2 innings this week. Ove the course of a season thats 48 IP a year. So he's been pretty rested this week. Again, not ideal...i would have rather not used him, but I'm not mad at all about it.

He's trusting wood and Eyre these days, and he didn't trust anyone but Marmol a month ago.

So I basically just turned on the game and was absolutely shocked when I saw 6-1. What the hell has gotten into Marquis lately? Whatever it is, I like it.

Glad to see it only took 2 months or so to finally figure it out. I still dont like using Marmol today, but the fact he had only thrown 1 inning recently makes it less of an issue.

Don't place your trust in Jason Marquis. Eventually, likely sooner rather than later, he will let you down.

The trust (rightful trust) in Eyre is very encouraging. Hopefully now he has 3 relievers he believes he can use.

He'd trust Howry if Howry didn't have the nasty habit of melting down just when you think he's turned a corner.

Yeah, thats a given. I bet his next start he goes 3 innings 8 earned runs.
