Lou looks not pleased in the dugout. I can't imagine he's optimistic about Soriano. Neither am I.

I bet it's broken.

of course YOU do.

It's a fastball right off the hand that is clutching a bat. That most likely will result in a broken bone from what I've seen. Just being honest.

What exactly have you seen?

I have no idea how serious the injury may or may not be. Although Soriano going to the hospital to get x-rays doesn't sound good.

Losing Soriano would be pretty bad, but thankfully the Cubs have depth. My guess is Hoffpauir would come up and get the majority of starts in LF, with the lineup being:

Theriot

Fukudome

Lee

Ramirez

Hoffpauir

Soto

Edmonds

DeRosa

I think they would miss Soriano, but this team has so many good hitters (and few elite hitters) that it likely wouldn't be as big of a dropoff as it usually is when you lose one of your "stars". Certainly not the same dropoff as when he was gone in August last year.

I'm serious, drill whoever is up first for the Braves. We need to let teams know that we're not going to tolerate this crap. I don't care if it was intentional or not.

We're not going to tolerate accidents?

We're not going to tolerate Soriano getting drilled with a pitch near his face.

Obviously losing Soriano sucks, however our team has proven we can win without him, and being that we're playing so well......IF Soriano needs to hit the DL, he'll get rest and be fresher for the end of the season playoff push.

Matt Murton fanboys are gleefully giggling.

Hoffpauir was coming up anyway, this just gives a reprieve to whoever they wanted to send down I'm imagining.

I hope not, we don't need to be at 13 pitchers any more.

So it doesn't look good for Soriano? Freakin' great. That's how the baseball gods work I guess. Pujols goes down, so Soriano has to as well.

Soriano isn't our best player. If he is hurt we can still win without him. This team has good depth.

Yes, I realize he isn't our best player. I didn't say he was. He's still a huge factor in this team's success. Instead of Soriano every day it's probably going to be Hoffpauir or Fontenot at 2nd and DeRosa in left. I like Hoff as much as the next guy, but his production is nowhere near Soriano's. Losing Soriano for an extended period of time (more than a month) will wear on this team's production.

I don't think it was intentional. There wasn't any reason for it in that situation.

I see all the resident NSBB medical experts have declared it a broken hand. Who knows... It did look like more of a glancing blow and then ricochet up to the neck.

I don't understand this whole "it was a glancing blow because it ricocheted to his neck" thing. It could have hit him square at that speed and it still would have ricocheted somewhere, it's not just going to plop down to the ground.

That's an incredibly myopic point of view.

Getting an X-ray is a very common, not good or bad sign. Just X-ray it and see if there is anything there.

Soriano to the hospital. He's done for a month.

Did they get into an accident on the way there?

Keep in mind the loss in production is tempered somewhat by now having a true leadoff hitter.

I don't remember many players getting taken immediately to the hospital during a game to X-Ray something that was no big deal

I understand the frustration, but...

Soriano is asking for that every AB. He is right on top of the plate, and leaning over it. That pitch wasn't really THAT far inside. That ball doesn't come within a foot of Ramirez if he was hitting.

There was absolutely no way it wasn't going to get x-rayed no matter how bad they thought it was (or wasn't).

An awful lot of situations just like this one that resulted in a broken bone, that's what I've seen.

There's no point hiding our heads in the sand because of Cub bias. The man just took a fb off a part of the body that has very little protective flesh and a very hard object underneath. There's a strong possibility it's broken, that's all I'm saying.

I amazed at how many people confuse this for wanting it to be broken, which I most definitely do NOT.

I know. I just said that because you mentioned losing Soriano with the Cards losing Pujols. I have faith that even with less production the Cubs production will still be better than the teams we are playing

I know, but I've seen plenty more guys get in the hand that looked a lot worse than that did.

Just have to wait and see what the x-rays say.

That's kind of a funny comparisons as it seems like Ramirez gets hit on the hands (or at least comes close to it) at least once a week
