I am trying my very best to not enjoy this. Say what you will, but theres a part of everyone out there who is doing the same.

I'm not even trying not to enjoy it. I'm just flat out enjoying it!

It's not nice to wish harm on someone or be happy they're hurt.

However, every circumstance is different.

I would rather beat a healthy Cardinals, but Cubbies75 said it best in another thread - it's been so long, I really don't give a crap how we win it all.

That being said, we feel your pain, Cards fans. Rough season on the injury front.

I hope Albert Pujols is out for the year but suffers absolutely no long term effects from this. And I hope that he remains happy throughout the rest of his life including this year.

I hope he suffers an unprecedented long term affect of not being able to swing the bat very well against the Cubs only. Outside of that, happy hitting to him.

Im wishing that Albert comes back full strenghth tommorow, but the rest of the team turns into the crap that its supposed to be.

Grade 2 strain at worst. He'll be out through the All-Star break, but this is not season-ending.

If this doesnt send the Cards on a downword spiral into oblivion, nothing will.

I want Pujols to be healthy. It's going to piss me off if they start to fall off now and all the Cardinals fans will blame it on him going down, and not that they are a huge fluke that would eventually right itself out.

I'll take what I can get. I just want them to go away.

The Cards have 30 games til the All-Star Break, without Wainwright or Pujols. They play 17 of those games on the road. 19 of those games are against Philly(3/3 Home/Road), the Mets(4 Home), Detroit(3 Road), Boston(3 Road), and us(3 Home). If they aren't careful they could be 8-10 games back by the break, if we don't fall off too much.

EDIT: And if either have a setback, it doesn't get easier for them schedule-wise. 4 games against the Padres to start, then Milwaukee(4), New York, Atlanta(4), Philly, LA, the Cubs, and Florida all in a row until mid-August

if the Cardinals are still in this thing when Pujols comes back, it's going to be a very interesting second half of the season.

So we're looking at, what, three weeks without Pujols?

Maybe a game or two off of replacement. Not nothing, but not gamechanging.

Ryan Ludwick, btw, is now OPSing .920 in June.

At LEAST three weeks.

More like 5 weeks if it is, in fact, through the All Star break.

But yea.

Here's the article...

Cardinals first baseman Albert Pujols has been diagnosed as suffering from a moderate strain of the left calf and is expected to miss a minimum of three weeks, according to club sources.

Pujols aggravated what had been rated a minor strain when breaking from the batter’s box on a seventh-inning ground ball Tuesday night against the Cincinnati Reds at Great American Ball Park.

He was carried from the field and returned Wednesday morning to St. Louis to be examined by team medical supervisor Dr. George Paletta.

Paletta examined Pujols early this afternoon and immediately notified general manager John Mozeliak of his diagnosis.

The Cardinals placed Pujols on the disabled list and promoted Chris Duncan from Triple-A Memphis to take his place. Duncan is in tonight’s lineup at first base and hitting sixth.

The Cardinals classified the strain as between a Grade I and Grade II. A Grade III indicates the muscle has detached form the bone. A Grade II suggests some but not complete tearing.

Pujols, who has endured only one previous stay on the disabled list during an 8-year career, is likely to remain out through the All-Star break, suggested one source.

However, the club was relieved to learn initial fears of a season-ending condition are unfounded.

If you count Looper, there are at least 5 inexplicably great hitters in that lineup.

That's not a horrible lineup if you take their 2008 performances seriously. If you're like me and you don't, then wow.

Please please keep us as injury free as possible. This kind of stuff can happen to us just as easily as it happened to them.

I think you have to take Ludwick/Ankiel/Schumaker at least a bit seriously. Now, even Ludwick's been reverting to his norm a bit lately, but they're clearly better than what we gave them credit for in April.

How many times does this organization have to prove to you that they overcome obstacles and win despite circumstances. The 06' team wasn't as talented as other clubs, yet they won. I'm not saying they'll win it all, but this team will be there till the end, book it. And yes, please revisit this thread at the end of the year, right or wrong. I will eat crow gladly if need be.

The 06 team wouldn't have even sniffed the playoffs had the division not been completely horrific. Any team can get hot once they get in the playoffs. You could have put the 03 Tigers in the playoffs, and they would've stood a chance to win a championship.

I don't expect the Cardinals will even be sniffing a playoff spot by August.

Five-run first inning in their first game post-Pujols. People keep predicting a fade, and people keep being wrong. We're way past the point where current W% has predictive value.

I wonder what the Cardinals' recent history is of performance relative to preseason statistical projections?

I will personally keep this thread going with Post-Pujols, Waino injuries, regardless of the outcome. KyleJRM, if I forget, pick up the slack.

I think August is probably a little too steep of a dropoff for them. They have a 3 game lead in the WC currently over Florida and 5 games over Milwaukee. There's nobody really in that WC race who you really expect to just take off on several long winning streaks, so the Cardinals would have to be really bad over the next month and a half to not at least be in the thick of that race come August.

We do have other game threads if you want to do that. I will be.
