just got in. jesus, this board/thread is the proverbial bitch-fest. have we traded geo, yet? is dlee in minors? did marmol die yet?

Imagine if we were in last place instead of having the best record in baseball. Some people will bitch about the stupidest stuff no matter what. My favorite is the freaking out about Kerry Wood coming in to save a 1 run lead. You'd think he was awful.

I couldn't figure out how Soriano could be charged with an error when all he did was slip a bit, but it was changed.

Great win, terrible song

I love that song. Mainly because it means that the Cubs just won, but I had it on a some Cubs cassette when I was a kid in 1984. Brings back some good memories for me.

by the way, the home run came on a breaking ball on the outer half of the plate - you know, the pitch that geo can't hit.

we get it

No, no! He just got a hit off of it! The past few weeks of sucking have just been a mirage!

I hope that this is a turning point and his prolonged slump is done, but it's not like one awesome AB instantly negates how bad he's looked for a few weeks now.

he's got just over 300 PAs against major league pitching. pitchers needed some time to adjust to soto and learn what he does well - drive fastballs on the inner half of the plate - and now soto is learning to adjust to what big league pitchers are doing to get him out - throwing him breaking balls and trying to force him to go the other way. most guys are not albert pujols; they don't come up with no holes in their game. for most guys, it's a learning process where they fill the holes in their game over time.

Agreed, and that's what everyone is hoping for, but it doesn't makes weeks of horrible AB's any less frustrating.

It was because he missed the cutoff man. A throwing error I'd imagine.

No...if we were in last place, the fans would be much more apathetic. The difference is, our expectations have been raised, and we hold the Cubs to a higher level than we did in 2005, 2006 or even 2007 at this point in the year. We want to see Geo succeed so badly, because we know his succcess is a central piece to us winning the World Series.

He missed the cutoff man on a throw to second to try to prevent a double? That's not an error. The play was at second and the throw went to second. It shouldn't matter if the throw is off-line or if the runner hesitates. Nothing Soriano did allowed that runner to stretch it into a double since you can't assume a putout at second.

Escobar had stopped around first. He only went to second when he saw the throw get away. If Soriano fields it cleanly and hits the cutoff man Escobar stops at first. That's routinely called an error, so I'm not sure why they changed it.

Well then, it'd be nice of some people would show even an iota of baseball acuity and post intelligently - identifying that Soto is a ROOKIE. And most ALL rookies have to adjust their game as they develop and as the league gets to know them.

Still doesn't explain the people who STILL don't want to see Woody in a one run game despite peripherals that match the best relievers in baseball. That's just idiocy, in my opinion.

Yeah, a 3 run lead turns into a 1 run lead. What fan would care about that?

Had nothing to do with Wood's level of talent.

But it didn't get away. It just wasn't a good throw, which isn't an error. It still went to second. Missing a cutoff man isn't an error unless the ball gets away and the runner advances. It would be like a runner rounding third, hesitating, then continuing on to home as a throw comes in from LF. Just because the runner hesitated and ending up advancing safely doesn't mean the fielder did anything wrong.

They did end up changing it to a straight double, though.

It's called emotions. Raw emotions. It's why people either love or hate this particular forum. I say tons of crazy things in this forum, but it doesn't mean I believe most of the things I say.

The real idiocy is to come on a game thread and expect calm, cool rationale. I mean really, give me a break.
