14- Gallagher (at TOR) vs. Halladay, poor kid.

Remember the Mitre vs. Halladay game?

Ha, I was just thinking that. Didn't he beat Halladay and, like, Beckett back-to-back? And everyone was like, "Who needs Wood; we got another Maddux here". That worked out well.

Edmonds plays a shallow CF. Maybe that's how he could see the pitcher's stuff. . . . .no pun intended.

Sean: Hey Jim, you were really impressive in center field today

Jim: Thanks, you were really impressive in the shower. You know, dong wise.

I'm excited about the thought of getting to see Sean pitch in Toronto. On the other hand, having to see Marquis, less so. We'll see.

Gallagher with Carpenter stuff?

No. Not even close.

His fastball comes in at about the same speed, but that's the only comparison I can even begin to see between the two.

Eh, it's not that far off. Pretty much the same repetoir, if I can remember back when Carpenter pitched. Carpenter just does everything much better. Fastball has the same velocity (91-94), but more sink. Curve has more bite. Command is a little better. But obviously, Gallagher has some polishing up to do, which will make the stuff much closer. I think a key difference in the two, though, may be the 4 inches of height Carpenter has over Sean. Probably extremely optimistic to expect Gallagher to ever have that type of success, but Carpenter is one of the better comparisons out there.

Carpenter had pretty crappy command at Gallagher's age too

In his first season with Toronto, Carpenter had 37 BB in 81 IP, which means he allowed a walk in 46% of innings. Gallagher has 13 BB in 36 IP, which means he gave up a walk in 36% of IP. Carpenter did have bad command early on, but got better, just as Sean hopefully will.

Gallagher is also having a better year than Carpenter did ERA-wise , with of course less innings pitched. 5.09 vs 4.42.
