HAVENT YOU GUYS LEARNED YOUR LESSON ABOUT THREADS LIKE THESE

WE MIGHT AS WELL LET UMFAN START ANOTHER INJURY THREAD

great, now umfan will start another injury thread. thanks for the jinx

I can start an injury thread about a certain Colts player. Maybe he won't be injured then. inverse jinxing. Want me to try. I'm pretty sure my thread will affect his durability.

What I said was totally tongue-in-cheek. I tried to make this as obvious as possible. Only one person has actually said "OMG, jinx" in this thread and I'm bummed I'm lumped in with him (despite all the wonderful contributions he's had since he's joined. (That was sarcasm))

That said, the only people more ridiculous than people who actually believe in the jinx stuff are the reactionaries and defenders-of-all-that-is-right that profess a poster's right to post whatever they damn well please while totally missing all the sarcasm/tongue-in-cheek comments that litter the board.

well when others post things exactly like what you did there's no way to know your being sarcastic especially when you are the first to post. The smiley face or something would help though.

Not my style. I'll use my cheesy, over-the-top internet shorthand instead.

I doubt any one on here actually thinks a thread on here can actually hold any kind of predetermination over how the Cubs do. It should have been obvious that it was sacrastic, some people in here need to lighten up. Anyone who has been a Cubs fan for more than a day should be aware by now of the teams history with perceived jinxes, whether they be billy goats, Bartman, or NSBB threads. If you can't draw that connection, then you've been living with your head in the sand.

Now if you want to complain that the ruse is getting old, that's another story. Let's stop taking people so seriously when they suggest deleting and banning to jinx-type threads.

I agree. That said, anyone who starts an injury update thread may or may not get accidentally permabanned.

I'll give that a +1

The reason we never made it back to 500 in '06 was cause Scott GF was starting all those threads.

awesome!

Those threads were the best part of 2006...of course there really weren't any good parts to 2006.

There was one good part to 2006...the part when they announced Dusty had officially managed his last game for the Cubs...

All we have to do is go 18-1 and we'll be back at .500!

Whatever happened to that guy?

He lost touch with a "reality" based world and wondered off somewhere.

He also started a thread in social on time travel and aliens.

I'll never be able to find it. It was rambling and incoherent for the most part. I think I was one of the very few who responded. I think my response something like, "Don't take the brown acid. The brown acid is bad."

Don't forget that MacPhail left that year, too. That was probably just as great as Dusty leaving.

During the Cubs 9 game streak, I left my Cubs hat in the rally position next to the TV the entire time, in the same spot I left it when we beat Saito in that game. When we were cleaning the house a few days later, and my wife tried to move it, I made a Jim Edmondsesque move to stop her.

Did that have any bearing on the games? probably not.

Does mentioning streaks or injuries have any effect on whether or not that will happen? Probably not, but why tempt fate if you dont have to.

You're much older than I thought you were.

I can't wait for this thread if the Cubs do lose 3 in a row.
Hopefully that will be in the last week of September when they're resting their starters.

There you go. I like the way you think.

Cubs still do have the best record in baseball. Screw jinxing.

After a particularly bad week a few years ago, I went down to my cell phone provider to find out that I had to shell out a few hundred bucks (keep in my I was just out of high school, about to start college in the spring, so that was a ton of money) to get out of a bad cellphone deal I had picked up the month before and hated the service.

Before I left, I muttered something about this being as bad as it gets to my father, who then warned me about tempting God and the fates. "Tell God and the fates that they can bring it," I said.

I drove down to the cellphone place, and came outside to the parking lot to find my car's engine on fire. After popping the hood and frantically shovelling snow onto it to put out the fire. I turned my head towards the sky and yelled "IS THAT ALL YOU GOT? IS THAT THE BEST YOU CAN DO?!?!? BRING IT!" at the top of my lungs.

Nothing worse happened to me that week, though I did go on to college to get a journalism degree and live through the 2003 NLCS, which were probably about the two worst things God and fates could do to me.

I hope you're staying indoors and keeping a fire extinguisher, first aid kit, axe, gun, and penicillin handy.

Last year I had a Cowboys bank card throughout the entire season and playoffs. The had the best record in the NFC and lost in the first round. I then switched it to a Cubs card, right now best record in bsaeball. Should they make the playoffs I will be damned if I don't switch it to something else before the 1st game.

some people don't like tempting fate and truly want threads like this locked. You get it everywhere. On my Rockets message board there was a 6 page thread with me and some guys arguing because they were throwing a fit over threads about the streak.
