It doesn't appear good for that. I think the only way Marmol leaves this game without pitching the 8th is if the Cubs find a way to get down to his spot this inning.

I don't like pulling Marquis here. The quick hook is gonna have our bullpen shot by mid-August. Piniella keeps complaining about his starters, but it's his own doing.

I have no problem with Lou pitching Marmol in those kinds of situations. If we want to get to October we're gonna need to pitch our best pitcher in that situation, and not Jason Marquis. It's when Lou brings in Marmol with a 4 run lead that drives me nuts.

We got 6.1 innings from Marquis and the bullpen is rested. It was a very smart move with a day off tomorrow.

 

Bullpen wear is often cumulative across an entire season. A day off isn't gonna change the fact that Marmol is on pace to enter the playoffs with 85 games under his belt already.

 

that's because lou keeps using marmol in situations where the cubs are heavily favored to win. the dodgers were up to about 30% after the loney walk, and the leverage index was at 4. that's a proper time to put marmol into the game.
