Arizona won 52 of their 92 games when either Schilling or Johnson started the game.

Johnson actually had really good control in 2001.

If he could do that all the time with an occasional at the head, I can't imagine the K numbers he would have had.

probably something ridiculous like a 10.76 k/9 ratio for his career.

I know, he's been amazing. I suppose the "I don't know if this thing is going to hit me or be a slider" was pretty effective, obviously, as it is. That is the career record for K per 9, correct?

I loved Stoney, with Harry and with Thom Brenneman. I can't stand Brenly and Kaspar. I think they are getting worse every day. I really wish they'd move Santo & Hughes to TV and Bob & Len to radio.

Johnson's BB/9 hasn't been above 2.75 since '98. His control was bad early in his career, but he was able to refine his command around 1993, keeping his BB/9 in the mid-3s for a couple years before getting it below 3.0 in 1995.

This is a joke, no? :-k

Hughes is great, don't get me wrong. However, his strength is on radio. He does a great job describing the action in detail, which is something you don't need to do as much on television. He's probably a little too dry for the majority of the television audience. And as much as I like Santo as a person, his broadcasting style (for lack of a better term) would be downright awful on television.

Santo is brutal, just brutal...in addition to his moaning and groaning in the booth he offers 0 analytical input in the game...hell even Pat Hughes tries to help him out.

Pat: Ronny, the Cubs have had a very efficient offense this season, and tonight should be a good matchup for them as the opposing pitcher has struggled with his control this season..., that should bode well for a team that has become very patient and is amoung the league leaders in On Base Percentage...Your thoughts?

Ron: Yeah.....

Santo is awful on the radio, too.

From a broadcasting standpoint, I agree 100%. As a fan though, you have to appreciate his genuine enthusiasm and love for the Cubs.

His enthusiasm for the game in big moments? Sure.

But for the 10 times a year we get to hear him yell "YES!", there's 10 times a game where his stupid, rambling, incoherent stories cause Pat to ignore three plate appearances.

Stone complimented Harry well because Harry wasn't going to give you any hard-hitting analysis. Kasper is a stats guy, so pairing him with Stone would be redundant.

You can sense his enthusiasm even when there isn't much going on. The good thing about their broadcasts - and one of the things that makes Hughes a great play-by-play guy - is that Hughes know when and how to interrupt Santo to give play-by-play without being rude about it.

Whenever I get annoyed with Santo's style, I remind myself that it could be much worse. We could have Hawk Harrelson in the booth.

You can't be serious, especially about the last part.

I think I'd rather have Hawk...I guess its a choice between Santo's rambling, and Hawks 20 minutes of silence. I'll take the silence.

Not a fan of Bob. In fact he cannot hold Stone's jock strap when it comes to giving insight into the game. As a color man he gives very little color.

I like Len. He's actually better at color then Bob.

Listening to Pat and Ron is a treat, every time. However, I think without Pat Ron would not have a job.

I like Len and Bob a lot now. At first, I wasnt a fan. Coming off of Chip and Stoney who were both huge Cubs fans who got legitamately into the games, and then comes the former Marlins announcer and D-Backs manager with no connection to the team, and it showed. Year after year, they got more and more into the team, and now I like them just as much as Steve and Chip.

If this were a poll, Brenly would be slaughtering Stone methinks.

Len & Bob are great. Brenly gets his axes to grind(Pie & Soriano) and I disagree with him often(hit and run) but he's an enjoyable presence up there.

I rather enjoyed Len's Larry King impersonation last night. Just had to give him credit on that, cause I didn't see it anywhere.

I've said it before and I'll say it again.

Record a voice saying "a breaking ball low and away should get him here."

Attach that to a button marked 'A'

Record a voice saying "the runners will be going here."

Attach that to a button marked 'B'

Record a voice saying "the runners probably won't be going here."

Attach that to a button marked 'C'

Train a monkey or small bird to press 'A' every time the count reaches two strikes, and randomly alternate beteween B and C whenever there are runners on base, and boom, you've got a replacement for Steve Stone.

I think you are severely underestimating Stone's knowledge of the game. If that is the only thing you took away from his broadcasts you weren't listening very much.

You're right. Add button 'D' - "If he gets a hanging slider middle-in here, So-and-so is going to crush it"

I was waiting for your input b/c I always respect what you say for some reason.

Do you really think Bob lacks that bad? I think he gives pretty good insight.
