Last night, Kevin Goldstein (BP) said that Buster Posey dropped unrealistic $12 million demands on the Rays. The Rays are now leaning towards their other choice for #1, Tim Beckham.

are there any good short stops that could fall to us this year?

Nah, both Beckhams will be gone. Casey Kelly (HS) should be there when we pick, but he's going to take a little time with the bat. Nice package of raw power for a SS though. Might be the best overall defender in the entire draft. Should be a Khalil Greene type (when he's actually playing good).

How many rounds are today? How many are televised?

Five rounds likely today, ESPN2 will have the first and supplemental rounds.

I actually like day 2 better than day 1.

I'm sure there is some SS out there that will turn into a good major level player but being the lucky one to draft him is unlikely.

We've worked out SS Niko Vasquez (HS), so don't be surprised on him in the 3rd or 4th. He seems like he should be a good hitter and has the potential to stay at short.

PriorPower- There's so many options it' not even worth it. I'd just wait until we pick and then come here where we'll be talking about him.

mlb-draft.com is a good place for a quick report on everyone though.

Yeah, I figured as much. When do we pick?

• The Gerrit Cole to Detroit talk has stopped, and BA’s best guess now is that the hard-throwing California righthander falls to the Yankees at 28. What happens with the Tigers, however, is tougher to gauge. They’re probably going to wind up with another starting righthander, possibly Tulane’s Shooter Hunt or Georgia prep righty Ethan Martin, if he’s on the board. Another prep righty who could be there is Missouri prep righthander Tim Melville, who is falling and apparently won’t be the Cubs’ pick at 19. Melville had an uneven spring and also has informed teams through a letter that he will not sign unless he’s treated like a top-15 pick. He’s a North Carolina recruit.

Not bad. I like Melville, but definitely not enough to spend crazy on him.

Am I wrong, or is Ethan Martin the kid who hit the umpire in the face with a fastball last week? That kid obviously has command.

That was his younger brother.

I went back and read the article about it, it looks like Ethan getting called out is what led to the team being upset, but Cody Martin(who I assume is his brother) was the pitcher when the ump got drilled.
