no, we will probably just try another useless retread out in CF despite the fact that every other team in baseball has figured out that the guy has nothing left.

holy crap, dude, lighten up.

can't, meatballs are heavy.

Low Risk, High yet unlikely potential, costs the organization virtually nothing. OMG, I totally forgot, EDMONDS WAS A CARDINAL, EDMONDS WORE EYELINER, EDMONDS LIKES GUYZ LOLZ!

No, it was no risk, no potential. Forget about what Jim Edmonds used to be. it's like signing babe ruth's corpse. he used to be great but if you wheel him out to home plate, he's not going to do anything for you. same with edmonds; all you've done is give at bats to a guy who had already proven in his performance elsewhere that he had nothing left. edmonds hasn't been pretty bad, he's been a detriment to the team.

My point was that people would find something to complain about no matter what. People complained when we picked up a coke head in the Rule 5. People complained when we traded him for jack to Cinci and he produced.

actually nobody complained about picking a coke head in the rule V draft and only morons complained about trading him to cincy.

Yeah...you're right. 1 month of playing time in a season that started on the DL is a fantastic sample size. Nobody in this thread has made the argument that it was a GOOD move just that it was not a move worthy of deeming Edmonds the most hated cub ever. For what it cost the club in terms of cash and playing time (over Reed Johnson against righties, not Pie...you won't find me arguing for either one of our current CFs getting playing time over Pie) it was pretty close to a non-move. It certainly was less of a move than resigning and starting Neifi, trading for Trachsel, etc.

As far as nobody complaining about Hamilton...It thought I remembered people poking fun at Hendry not sticking to his "Character Guys" or stating that it would have been a good move years earlier but that he had no chance of contributing. Also, I never stated that those who would complain no matter what are not morons.

The bottom line of this whole thing is: Who cares about Edmonds? He's a turd we spend a few hundred k to try to polish. If the complaint is that he is stealing ABs from Pie, then the same applies to Johnson and I agree with said complaint.

We have had some guys we hate that were Cubs. (Juan Pierre, LaTroy Hawkins, Neifi Perez, Tudd Hundley, ect.). But is their possibly anyone on here that doesn't now consider Jim Edmonds their least favorite Cub of all time, HANDS DOWN???

why, because he hasn't hit in a handful of games? trust me, he'll be gone soon and he won't have caused even a particle of the damage that any of the guys you named did. i've heard of meatball hate, but this is ridiculous.

actually it's ridiculous to keep calling people "meatballs." you supported the signing of edmonds; time to take your medicine.

i don't get it. i wasn't telling anyone that this was for sure an awesome signing. i was saying that it was, at worst, a pointless signing. but you've decided to put words in my mouth, apparently.

i'll not deny that one of my favorite pastimes is ridiculing the poor slobs who hate edmonds not for his offensive decline, but for his past with the cardinals and because he's apparently gay. if you hate him for one these meatball reasons, you're a meatball and you belong with da superfans. that's all.

Thanks, you stated exactly what I was trying (and failing) to say.

Edmonds is easily my most hated Cub.

me too, but maybe because i also live among the heathens. they still worship him.

Some Cards fans I know are glad to see him on the Cubs, just because they realize that he's going to harm them much more than do any good. So in a way, he's still playing for the Cards.

Lenny Harris. I LOATHED that guy when he was on the team. His stats indicate that when he was with us he did hit one home run, which is shocking to me because I don't know how you get a home run when he you hit a weak ground ball back to the pitcher, because that is apparently all I remember him doing.

I think you miss the point. I could care less what we paid Edmonds. I could care less how little cost it spent us, and how it was low risk. What I do care about is the fact that this guy tarnishes the Cubs uniform that I love. I have to sit down and watch this scrub blow every single at bat. I don't dislike the guy the guy because I think he is hurting our organization. I dislike the guy because he was probably my most hated player outside of Derek Jeter and Khalil Greene before he came to the Cubs. It sickens me that he is a Cub. It is basically the fact that we would go get one of the Cardinal's ex World Series Champion players who was never liked by any Cub fan, and let him take our top hitting prospects at bats. Everyone knew he was going to suck. He has sucked. Like I said I don't care that we didn't spend much money, it is just the principle that everyone knew Edmonds sucked when we signed him, and he has sucked, and it has killed Felix's confidence that he got sent down, so who is to know now whether that kid will ever be a quality player for us EVER. We might have ruined a guy who we have been talking about for 4 years now because of freaking JIM EDMONDS.

The gay jokes were old when he was a cardinal and they're getting embarrassing at this point. But I don't get why you think you can call people poor slobs and meatballs because they they don't like a particular player and they didn't want him signed by their favorite team and he took ABs (although limited ABs) from a young prospect...oh, and because he sucks.

It's hard to separate all the reasons why people wouldn't like Edmonds, but it's disingenuous to suggest that most Cubs fans would hate for any former Cardinal to be signed by the Cubs. Hatred for this particular Cardinal can't be generalized to hatred of all Cardinals (at least for most people). There was a history with Edmonds and the Cubs (esp Z). He has a pretty bad reputation. And he's now terrible. But those are apparently meatball reasons, since you don't approve of them. You know what would make things easier? If you came up with a stupid little self-important "stamp of approval."

If you get hit by a car, do you get mad at the car or at the driver? Hendry is the one that wanted him and he always gets his man- just a few years after his man stopped being good.

They weren't going to play Pie, so Edmonds isn't taking time away from Pie. I don't really care if he takes a few dozen ABs away from Reed Johnson.

I don't like Edmonds but he has a long way to go to be the most hated Cub ever.

Current Cubs I hate more than Edmonds:

Soriano

Marquis

All time in no particular order:

Juan Pierre

Paul Rueschel

Davy Rosello

Larry Bowa

Roosevelt Brown

I hate bad players.

I love good ones.

This is ok because my hatred applies only within the context of them as baseball players and I don't really pass judgment nor do I care about them as people (by and large, although there's probably a few players I build irrational attachments to).

I have an irrational hatred of Matt Sinatro. he's never done anything to me personally, and I haven't seen him do anything professionally that warrants my disgust.

Is it the helmet? It makes him look goofy.

You were dying to get Edmonds on this team.

The closest I have come to "hating" a Cub was Hundley.

I also disliked, in no particular order, Danny Jackson, Kal Daniels, and Larry Bowa.

And for one day in 2004 - Sammy.

when he came up last night I was hoping he would hit a homer. when you are on the cubs I only wish the best for you. Then they can suck when they leave

Oh, he'll be doing plenty of that, amirite? lulz!

could be. could also be the 3-sizes-too-small uniform.

2-3 years ago, yes. but find a recent post of mine where i voice really any opinion other than give him a chance.

i was interested in seeing what he could do with the cubs at this point in his career. it appears that the answer is "nothing", and finding out hasn't destroyed this team in any way.
