Yea, given the small sample size, I think, despite his suckitude at the plate, he has managed to have an overall positive impact with a couple of huge (high leverage) catches he has made defensively.

Obviously, that wouldn't hold up long term, but a couple of catches have been huge in the 7 or 8 games he has played.

We have had some guys we hate that were Cubs. (Juan Pierre, LaTroy Hawkins, Neifi Perez, Tudd Hundley, ect.). But is their possibly anyone on here that doesn't now consider Jim Edmonds their least favorite Cub of all time, HANDS DOWN???

why, because he hasn't hit in a handful of games? trust me, he'll be gone soon and he won't have caused even a particle of the damage that any of the guys you named did. i've heard of meatball hate, but this is ridiculous.

actually it's ridiculous to keep calling people "meatballs." you supported the signing of edmonds; time to take your medicine.

i don't get it. i wasn't telling anyone that this was for sure an awesome signing. i was saying that it was, at worst, a pointless signing. but you've decided to put words in my mouth, apparently.

i'll not deny that one of my favorite pastimes is ridiculing the poor slobs who hate edmonds not for his offensive decline, but for his past with the cardinals and because he's apparently gay. if you hate him for one these meatball reasons, you're a meatball and you belong with da superfans. that's all.

The gay jokes were old when he was a cardinal and they're getting embarrassing at this point. But I don't get why you think you can call people poor slobs and meatballs because they they don't like a particular player and they didn't want him signed by their favorite team and he took ABs (although limited ABs) from a young prospect...oh, and because he sucks.

It's hard to separate all the reasons why people wouldn't like Edmonds, but it's disingenuous to suggest that most Cubs fans would hate for any former Cardinal to be signed by the Cubs. Hatred for this particular Cardinal can't be generalized to hatred of all Cardinals (at least for most people). There was a history with Edmonds and the Cubs (esp Z). He has a pretty bad reputation. And he's now terrible. But those are apparently meatball reasons, since you don't approve of them. You know what would make things easier? If you came up with a stupid little self-important "stamp of approval."

are you sure you really want to do this, again?

do what again? Have a discussion with you? Are you going to pick a word I use and just repeat it for 6 posts in a row, effecting ending the thread b/c you annoy everyone?

The moral of the story is that the use of the word "meatball" is becoming more annoying than anything else on the history of this board.

you've obviously not been paying close enough attention. meatball wouldn't rank near my top 100

and perhaps you have more posters on ignore than I do...

I agree, this is the first thread I've seen it in. I feel kinda left out. I would say Meatball > Bean Burrito > Mental Midget > Half-Shirt > Haha Jim Hendry likes Donuts > Season Over

Should we start a new thread for this?

I never liked Edmonds. I've openly admitted that many times, but if he came here and hit, I'd forget about all that and welcome him with open arms.

However, he has nothing left. So, right now he gets the double whammy of being a player I've never liked (aka Todd Hundley) and playing at a level that is extremely low.

For comparisons, the turd Todd Hundely at least had a 67 OPS+ in his worst season as a Cub. Is that bad? Yes, but it's still 92 points higher than what Edmonds is doing. Neifi Perez is his worst stint as a Cub had a 53 OPS+. Bad? Yes, but still 78 points higher than Edmonds. Jacque Jones at his worst produced an 87 OPS+ which is 112 points higher than Edmonds. Amazing isn't it?

Need more? The worst Jose Macias could do was a 52 OPS+. That's 77 points higher than Edmonds. Paul Noce even put up a 58 OPS+, Jeff Blauser never fell below 69, Ced Landrum 66, Juan Pierre 82, Willie Wilson 75, Corey Patterson 54, and Ozzie Timmons 71.

We've seen some suckage with this team, but Edmonds over the past two weeks has reached epic levels. He was hated when he got here and has done nothing to help this team win. I'm highly critical of the Cubs at times, but when the games begin, I root for anyone who wears the uniform...even those that are asses and those that suck. However, Edmonds was a player I never wanted. Had he been able to provide even a scintilla of offense, I would have learned to like him, albeit begrudgingly, but I hated him before he came and he's brought never before seen levels of suckage with him. He's done. Cut bait.

Jim Edmonds has an OPS+ in the negatives. I don't even know what that means. He could take the field in a miniskirt and bury nuns in the outfield and I don't think I could hate him any more than I already do

but you hate him for a rational reason, which makes you a non-meatball.

I'm sure he's already asked if he could do that.
