We have had some guys we hate that were Cubs. (Juan Pierre, LaTroy Hawkins, Neifi Perez, Tudd Hundley, ect.). But is their possibly anyone on here that doesn't now consider Jim Edmonds their least favorite Cub of all time, HANDS DOWN???

No. Edmonds doesnt even come close to being as disliked as Neifi was.

Agreed with the others -- not even close.

We didn't trade anyone away to get him. We really aren't paying him anything. And the playing time is annoying . . . but he's not hitting EVERY day, and I can already tell management is getting tired of him.

Edmonds >>>>> Neifi > Trachsel > Blauser > Macias > Hundley

The only downside to signing Edmonds is Pie not starting. If Edmonds signed with somebody else for nothing and started hitting like he did 2 years ago, people would be complaining that Hendry didn't sign him.

No they wouldn't. Edmonds is a player that most Cub fans never ever wanted.

why, because he hasn't hit in a handful of games? trust me, he'll be gone soon and he won't have caused even a particle of the damage that any of the guys you named did. i've heard of meatball hate, but this is ridiculous.

That's never stopped many of the posters here from 2nd guessing/complaining about Hendry. Please reference Josh Hamilton.

I fail to see how the situations are similar.

actually it's ridiculous to keep calling people "meatballs." you supported the signing of edmonds; time to take your medicine.

Low Risk, High yet unlikely potential, costs the organization virtually nothing. OMG, I totally forgot, EDMONDS WAS A CARDINAL, EDMONDS WORE EYELINER, EDMONDS LIKES GUYZ LOLZ!

My point was that people would find something to complain about no matter what. People complained when we picked up a coke head in the Rule 5. People complained when we traded him for jack to Cinci and he produced.

Edmonds was a good bet to be a bust, but Johnson getting the starts againt righties anyway it was a low impact attempt to catch lightning in a bottle. No lightning, DFA, who cares?

High potential? Are we still talking about Edmonds?

Edmonds is easily my most hated Cub.

me too, but maybe because i also live among the heathens. they still worship him.

Yeah, I'm in hell too. Really ready for the pixie dust to wear off this year.

No, it was no risk, no potential. Forget about what Jim Edmonds used to be. it's like signing babe ruth's corpse. he used to be great but if you wheel him out to home plate, he's not going to do anything for you. same with edmonds; all you've done is give at bats to a guy who had already proven in his performance elsewhere that he had nothing left. edmonds hasn't been pretty bad, he's been a detriment to the team.

actually nobody complained about picking a coke head in the rule V draft and only morons complained about trading him to cincy.

i don't get it. i wasn't telling anyone that this was for sure an awesome signing. i was saying that it was, at worst, a pointless signing. but you've decided to put words in my mouth, apparently.

i'll not deny that one of my favorite pastimes is ridiculing the poor slobs who hate edmonds not for his offensive decline, but for his past with the cardinals and because he's apparently gay. if you hate him for one these meatball reasons, you're a meatball and you belong with da superfans. that's all.

no, that's wrong. he has been worse than if the cubs had continued to play mostly reed johnson with a sprinkling of felix pie. so, ignoring the idea that his signing has taken developmental time away from felix pie, he has also been a detriment to the overall performance of the baseball team.

As irritated as I was about the Edmonds signing, he's still well behind several other ex-Cubs.

Here's my top 10. Edmonds is just number 8. If he stinks it up all year and still manages to stay on the team, he'll move up.

10. Jeff Blauser

9. Jose Macias

8. Jim Edmonds

7. Rey Ordonez

6. Jacque Jones

5. Augie Ojeda

4. Alex Gonzalez

3. Corey Patterson

2. Antonio Alfonseca

1. Todd Hundley

Hundley is my least favorite ex-Cub and it's not particularly close. For it's time, his contract was horrid. Not as bad as Marquis's or Soriano's, but bad nonetheless. He and Jacque are the only players I can remember that ever publicly argued with the fans, but Hundley was much worse. He barely cleared a .200 BA and was one of the worst defensive catchers in baseball to boot. He was so bad, many fans including myself were calling for 30 year old journeyman AAA player Robert Machado to take Hundley's place as starter.

You'll notice Neifi's not on my list. He had a decent season in 2005, and it really wasn't his fault Dusty Baker was a moron and decided he needed to start. Neifi's valuable as a "plays any position" 25th man defensive replacement or injury fill in, but not much else. I blame Baker for playing him and Hendry for not signing someone better to start.

wow, you must be very fun at parties.

anyways, this might be the best thing to happen to pie. maybe lou will have no recourse but to play him, now. completely ignoring the fact that pie was rotting on the bench with reed johnson in the lineup.
