From the wound, it hit him where the bone is closest to the skin on the forehead, above the bridge of the nose. He was bleeding pretty good for a bit, but he should be fine.

Capital!

Pujols-ball-face-laughter.

Maybe we should try that play on Valverde next time we play the Astros.

BTW, umps got another home run call wrong.

ARod hit a shot that bounced off a staircase-like thing just past the outfield wall. The ball bounced back onto the field. Umps huddled for a second and gave ARod a double.

Geez, what a horrific week for MLB umpiring. Oh well .. the sooner instant replay is implemented, the better.

For those who care.

the cardinals are all terrible people who hurt their opponents on purpose. time to dissolve the franchise in the best interests of the game.

Please tell me that at least one of Schumaker, Miles, Ludwick, and Ryan were highly touted prospects. PLEASE.

"Brennan" Ryan was the Cardinals' 7th-best prospect before 2005 according to Baseball America - although this is hardly a list of greatness (Brad Thompson, Wainwright, Reyes and SuperDuncan are the only other of the 5 who have even been in the majors).

Ludwick turns 30 in July.

The other two both sucked as far as I can tell.

i think ludwick was highly regarded in the a's system, though that was about six years ago.

schumaker was never supposed to be more than a 5th outfielder; miles was for most of his career a marginal utility player. same for ryan - adequate glove, lousy bat.

Ludwick was highly regarded as a prospect 5-6 years ago. His only problem was that he was always hurt. But last year and this year he's been healthy, and it shows.

But I'm even surprised at what Schumaker is doing.

It's frustrating to see yet another game where the bullpen does its job and locks down the game and the bats can do absolutely nothing in a juice box of a park against a craptacular pitcher.

It still amazes me how people get so upset over losses. It doesn't matter how they lose. It's 162 games. They're going to lose 60+ games and in some of them they are going to look absolutely terrible.

It's not so much a reaction to anything in this thread but just a general thing. You start hearing people call in on the radio wondering what is wrong with the Cubs. Other people with knee-jerk reactions about how terrible certain players are or how they need to fix something. Based on one or two games. The worst is when they call in saying the team needs to bunt more to score runs more consistently, because the HRs aren't always going to be there. It's like these people think/expect you can win every game.

I missed the game. How did Gallagher look?

Great against Berkman.

I watched the first part on fast forward and it looked to me like he was getting ahead early, but leaving stuff over the plate way too frequently.

this is what happened on the HR to Lee...left one up and over the plate on an 0-2 count...ballgame.

He struckout Berkman on a changeup right down the middle thigh high.

The Astros announcers raved about his "stuff." His curve looked good and he was ok with the fastball. The pitch to Lee was a mistake. He shouldn't have thrown that ball anywhere near the plate, but he let a curve spin up there about belt high and Lee crushed it.

The stuff was there, but he caught too much plate too many times.

end of the season is gonna be rouuuuuuuuuugh, with a ton of NL central battles.

It'd be nice if we could have a comfortable lead before we get there, not gonna happen apparently

I must admit I had a profanity laced fit when I got to the game (parents called after the 2nd) to find the Cubs trailing. But, looking at the rest of the teams in the division there isn't a team as good or complete as the Cubs, they are clearly the best team. And its not that close, despite what the Cardinals and Astros have done recently there's no way they'll maintain that pace. I fully expect the Cubs to win the NL Central by 8+ games (and yes, they'll start beating all crap pitchers, all the Loopers, Wellemeyers, Chacons, etc.)

A strong season for Ludwick would be an .850 OPS, not 300 points higher than that like he's currently doing.
