Nice.

He's way overdue to try pitching. Try him at pitcher now or release him already.

I imagine this move makes room for Matt Craig to be activated at Tennessee. My guess is Iowa DL's someone to make room for Pie (or else they could release Carrasco). Any ideas who moves out of Daytona?

How much longer till he takes the mound?

Hopefully before the end of this season. They should have done it after the end of last one, but nooooooooooooooooo, he has a tool you can't teach!

Burke to AZ. Not sure of any other moves. I'm sure someone is coming down from Daytona? Unless Vitters or Rundle are coming back to Peoria.

Jeffrey Rea, Brandon Guyer and Luis Bautista were called up from extended while Burke, Marwin Gonzalez and Jose Made were sent down.

Terrible pick.

Jeff Francoeur says hello.....

francoeur is at least an adequate major league outfielder; harvey can't even hack it at AA.

I guess that was my (poorly made) point. If memory serves, we passed on Francoeur to take Haryey.

Francoeur was drafted the year before (we took Brownlie 2 picks earlier). we did pass up on other OF'ers like Markakis, Milledge, Conor Jackson, and Carlos Quentin when we took Harvey

I stand corrected. I went to look it up but the BA site either hides the info or I can find it anymore. Brownlie and Harvery when we could have had Markakis and Francoeur (to name a couple). Ugh

The next step is to get rid of the minor league clubs and send every player to extended Spring Training permanently.

Who did we pick Ryan Harvey ahead of?

Nick Markakis

John Danks

Aaron Hill

David Murphy

Ian Stewart

Lastings Milledge

Paul Maholm

Conor Jackson

Matt Moses

David Aardsma

Brandon Wood

Chad Billingsley

Daric Barton

Carlos Quentin

Adam Miller

Matt Murton

Jarrod Saltalamacchia

Adam Jones

Tony Gwynn Jr.

Jo Jo Reyes

Tom Gorzelanny

Jerry Owens

Jason Hirsh

Andre Ethier

Some of those guys aren't good but they're better than Harvey.

Why do people do this? "What would could have had" scenerio? Because that's a slippery slope, that leads to endless debates. Sure the Cubs could have had those kids over Harvey, but guess what...............we could have had Stephen Drew, DJ Houlton or Sean Gamble over Geovany Soto in 2001. We could have had Ariel Prieto, Chad Hermansen, Mark Redman or Reggie Taylor over Kerry Wood in 1995. Or we could have had Dewon Brazelton, Kenny Baugh, Josh Karp, Colt Griffin or John Van Benschoten over Mark Prior.

To me this "what we could have had" scenerio is just wishful thinking. It goes to show that drafting players is a crap shoot. Instead of looking at the players the Cubs could have had, how about enjoying the good players they did draft.

articles in the TB newspapers at the time suggested the Rays were heavily considering taking Harvey #1 overall. Lou said he had never seen somebody put on such a power display in batting practice.

note that this is absolutely a terrible way to judge whether a guy will be a good baseball player.

Maybe, but I think the point he's making is fair: at the time we drafted Harvey, it was considered a great, great pick at the spot where we got him. Until his leg injury the year of the draft, he was definitely considered an easy top 3 pick, IIRC.

I wasn't sure where to put this but Robinson Chirinos has returned to Arizona to become a catcher according to the Montgomery AL Newspaper.

Apparently he hit a triple in a game.

They also said he's been in the minors for 8 years. That seems like a long to to be only an AA player.

So was Earl Cunningham when he was drafted. Same story, without the injury. The problem is the Cubs do not do a good job of developing these type players.

It's the Montgomery Advertiser, and Chirinos hit 3 TRIPLES in one game, tying a mark for triples hit in a game set back in 1985, I believe.
