I cant get too excited about beating up on the Padres. its kind of like getting excited when your waiter brings out your french onion soup on time. Just doing what there supposed to do.

I'd love to take 3 of 4 with the Pirates coming to town. This could be one of those stretches we talk about in late September as really the "turning point" of the season.

The Padres announce team is reporting that Ronnie Woo Woo is in the crowd. And the nation breathes a sigh of relief. Rumor has it that the Reds are trying to trade for him.

Even Lou's not foolish enough to keep Marmol in with a 4 run lead is he? Five runs?

Unless the Cubs build up about a 15 run lead here, my guess is that Marmol would go back in. It's too bad, but I don't see much way that it doesn't happen.

A 4 run lead here does not assure this game. They've been coming back on us all night. This is not the same situation as putting Marmol in with a 6 run lead and the opposing team has shown no signs of life.

Bring in Howry. If he struggles, bring in Kerry Wood. It's not that hard.

If Howry struggles it could be tied before you blink.

i was going to make a snide comment about how lou would probably run marmol out there next inning, but i didn't because i didn't think there was a chance of it happening. but lou has proven me wrong yet again.

thanks lou.

I knew it already because of the communist thing, but you're not nearly as cynical as you should be

Of course he was going to take Marmol for 2 when he put him in in the 7th

yeah, no more benefits of the doubt for lou.

it's a low leverage situation. lou continues to use marmol too much in low leverage situations, but puts the worst relievers on the team into the game with runners on in the 5th or 6th inning. it's pretty much out of the textbook on how not to use your bullpen.

I don't mean this to offend any soccer aficionados out there... but I can't say I really know anyone that "go to Chicago Fire games."

MLS crowds, at least out here in LA, are pretty loyal. Small, but passionate.

Now I will say I've never met anyone who has admitted to going to a WNBA game. A funny joke I read about the WNBA, that perfectly encapsulates its place in professional sports, was going up to random strangers and asking them if they'd rather find $5 on the ground or have their hometown team win the WNBA title.

I'm taking the 5 bucks every time.

I kind of hope that Piniella is in a coma that ends right after our season is over

Or, say, aliens abduct him and take hiim to see amazing things for the next 5 months, then return him unharmed

It's really strange with Lou on Marmol. He gives him proper rest so that he doesn't throw too many 3 days in a row, doesn't throw 2 innings the day after he threw 2 innings, etc. He's very concerned about that, but he isn't concerned about his overall pace of innings for the season.

I don't know. Maybe pitchers aren't that big of risk for problems throwing 100-110 innings if they're properly spaced out. It's hard to say because we've had so few cases like that. Usually managers either hold relievers to 80-85 innings, or throw them 4+ days in a row regularly and run them into the ground.

I agree, sometimes it seems like he's running him into the ground and then I'll look up and see he hasn't pitched for 2 or 3 days.

Either way, I'm gonna go ahead and just believe that Marmol has an indestructible arm like K-Rod or something.

Well, that's a risk I'd take. I'd gamble that 3-4 pitchers can get 6 outs with a 4-run lead than that Carlos Marmol can continue his pace of 110 relief innings this year.

I suppose. I'm just saying this isn't as outrageous as the night he was put in with a much bigger lead and it was obviously not going to be a comeback.

Whoever passes on the $5 should be admitted to a hospital.
