Even Lou's not foolish enough to keep Marmol in with a 4 run lead is he? Five runs?

haha like this hasn't already happened multiple times this season

Maybe he's just letting him bunt?

Please Soriano go deep so Lou can go to the pen and not pitch Marmol anymore.

I expect marmol would still pitch the 8th if there was a HR here and then an out

Unless the Cubs build up about a 15 run lead here, my guess is that Marmol would go back in. It's too bad, but I don't see much way that it doesn't happen.

I can kind of 'get' letting Marmol practice a bunt in a live situation in case it's required in another close game where he needs to pitch 2 innings, but if (when) he toes the rubber in the 8th Lou should be fired.

i was going to make a snide comment about how lou would probably run marmol out there next inning, but i didn't because i didn't think there was a chance of it happening. but lou has proven me wrong yet again.

thanks lou.

I knew it already because of the communist thing, but you're not nearly as cynical as you should be

Of course he was going to take Marmol for 2 when he put him in in the 7th

I don't mean this to offend any soccer aficionados out there... but I can't say I really know anyone that "go to Chicago Fire games."

No power

correct you are, reed johnson really doesn't have much power at all

As he continues to drive balls to the warning track and beyond...

beyond? you're really working that home run for all it's worth.

I got the Padres announcers through MLB xtra innings...whats with the announcer always saying that would be a double if he hits it whenever Soriano checks a swing or a pitch is thrown in the dirt? Edited by aerosmith21

:) True, but if I didn't add that, I'd get the WTP explanation

A 4 run lead here does not assure this game. They've been coming back on us all night. This is not the same situation as putting Marmol in with a 6 run lead and the opposing team has shown no signs of life.

If the tickets were cheap enough and I had nothing better to do, it might be an OK way to spend an evening.

I still couldn't care any less than I do now about soccer, though. It's not humanly possible.

Bring in Howry. If he struggles, bring in Kerry Wood. It's not that hard.

I cant get too excited about beating up on the Padres. its kind of like getting excited when your waiter brings out your french onion soup on time. Just doing what there supposed to do.

i can get excited about putting up 8 runs on a night when one of the three best pitchers in baseball started for the other team.

This game was 96% in the bank at the start of the inning.

It's really strange with Lou on Marmol. He gives him proper rest so that he doesn't throw too many 3 days in a row, doesn't throw 2 innings the day after he threw 2 innings, etc. He's very concerned about that, but he isn't concerned about his overall pace of innings for the season.

I don't know. Maybe pitchers aren't that big of risk for problems throwing 100-110 innings if they're properly spaced out. It's hard to say because we've had so few cases like that. Usually managers either hold relievers to 80-85 innings, or throw them 4+ days in a row regularly and run them into the ground.
