Jacob Edward Peavy

http://assets.espn.go.com/i/mlb/profiles/players/65x90/6872.jpg

155 ERA+ 1.079 WHIP

will face (and likely beat)

Theodore Roosevelt Lilly

http://assets.espn.go.com/i/mlb/profiles/players/65x90/6223.jpg

84 ERA+ 1.299 WHIP

in the start of what figures to be a short stint as game thread starter for me.

If any of you don't know what ERA+ or WHIPs are and whether it's better to have high ones or low ones (I doubt it but maybe), you should be able to figure it out by looking at these two guys.

cubs are 6-3 when im in attendance...i'll be there tomorrow...i lost my hat last night....i m gonna go ahead and chalk up todays loss to that, that said, i'm gonna retrace my drunken movements from last night in an effort to find that damn hat

While ordinarily facing Peavy should be considered an automatic loss (Webb and Santana are the only other pitchers I feel that way about), with Lilly's improvement against a light hitting Padres team, we might be able to win a close one ala the Lilly-Haren game last week. Keep it low scoring and close and who knows? Not getting my hopes up, but if Lilly pitches well, it's not the automatic loss we are all fearing.

I think the Cubs offense is more likely to get 3 or so runs off Peavy then the Padres are to get 3 off Lilly. Not because Lilly is a great pitcher, but because if the Padres are not facing a lousy pitcher (Marquis) they'll likely not to score much or at all.

I like the Cubs to win 3-1, tomorrow.

I think Lou goes like this:

Soriano

Theriot

Lee

Ramirez

Fukudome

Soto

Fontenot

Pie

Pie gets to continue his enjoyment of starting against tough righties only

I must add this is also contingent on Edmonds not becoming a Cub

Posted
The Edmonds signing isn't going to be announced until after the game so he obviously won't be starting tonight. Let's hope Pie starts and goes 4-4 and hits for the cycle.
Posted
I'd rather Pie NOT start tonight, if this game is being used as any sort of barometer for how much playing time he may or may not get. Peavy should pretty much eat Felix alive. First start in the week probably shouldn't be against the best RH pitcher in the NL.

If (and that's a big if) we win tonight, I guarantee Peavy won't be tacked with the L. If we can't score more than 3 runs off of Estes, Peavy ought to shut us out fairly easily.

Well, the silver lining here is that it should be a very quick game. Lilly has been good recently and then there's Peavy - they should both roll through these line-ups. That means it won't be nearly as hard to wake up for the day game tomorrow. yippee.

Also - Last day of classes for me today. Thank God.

This one's going to be rough. Lilly will know he can't afford to give up anything or we're done. I hope that doesn't take him off his game.

3 nights games in a row? LAME

yeah i am not pleased.

you know this summer when there's a heat wave the cubs are going to play like 15 home day games in a row too.

I can't watch day games during the week, so I'm not displeased.

That's really not how things work in baseball.

But yea, we'll probably lose anyways, because it's Peavy.

since there's a dominant pitcher going for the opposition, and it's probably his last game in the majors for a while, i look for Pie to get the start. i look forward to people (Lou) using it to justify sending him down tomorrow/tonight. Edited by soapy

I wonder if the rain had anything to do with why they didn't Estes, like maybe visibility was messed up, because nobody hit after it started raining. I mean there has to be a reason why one of the best offenses in baseball didn't hit Shawn Estes.
