In 2005, the Blue Jays took the first 2 games of a series against the Cubs, and the Cubs had Sergio Mitre on the mound to avoid a sweep vs. Roy Halladay. Sweep right? No, the Cubs won.

In 2007, the Cubs played the Diamondbacks, and the first game of the series, we had Brandon Webb going against Jason Marquis. We won. Potential sweep right? Nope, the Dbacks took the next 2 games.

With four day games coming up after tonight, Piniella should sit Soto either tonight or tomorrow.

If (and that's a big if) we win tonight, I guarantee Peavy won't be tacked with the L. If we can't score more than 3 runs off of Estes, Peavy ought to shut us out fairly easily.

That's really not how things work in baseball.

But yea, we'll probably lose anyways, because it's Peavy.

I wonder if the rain had anything to do with why they didn't Estes, like maybe visibility was messed up, because nobody hit after it started raining. I mean there has to be a reason why one of the best offenses in baseball didn't hit Shawn Estes.

Not everything can be reasoned.

There's a lot of luck involved in baseball.

You end up staying for the whole game last night?

I'm gonna give it one more go tonight, but 5 in a row is wearing on me this week especially with this crap weather.

I know alot of people are considering this game a loss, due to who is pitching for the Padres, but I am not. There are alot of types of games the Cubs have to win, but this one is very important in my eyes. The Cubs have to show they can bounce back from a turrible loss against Estes, and beat Peavy. I know I will be in the minority, but I believe the Cubs will beat Peavy.

I think the Cubs can (and about 50/50 on will) beat Peavy tonight. But it's probably due more to the fact that the Padres blow at hitting and Lilly has been going well.

Hate to say it but I left after the bottom of the 7th. My roommates girlfriend was too cold and wet. Watched the end of the game at Goose Island while I dried off. Hopefully you have a better time tonight.

At least it won't be wet tonight.

Roommates gf was too cold and wet....yeah, you saw who I was with. She would have gamed it out, but actually we were all kinda cold and wet. Left with Laura after the 5th pretty much assuming they were going to tarp it. One perk of going to a lot of games, I don't feel bad leaving early if weather dictates.

The lineup that VanceJergins posted earlier is looking more and more probable

I highly doubt the part about Johnson in LF and Fontenot at 2B, but yea.

He's taking his physical this afternoon, and the signing probably won't be announced until after the game. So we won't be seeing Jimmy against his old pal, Jake.

At least we know Lou will not tolerate a sucky batting line from Edmonds for long. What I'm afraid of is that he will have two great games right off the bat, and his suckiness won't be apparent for a while.

Does anyone know if MLB EI will pick up this game?

736/736-1

my money would be on it being the Padres feed though (re: WCIU)
