Not that you didn't already realize that.

DENVER — After a meeting with the Cardinals team doctor Wednesday morning, lefthanded starter Mark Mulder will be shut down for at least a week to calm what’s being called a “mild rotator cuff strain”, the team announced in a press release this afternoon.

Mulder experienced what was described as “shoulder fatigue” during his start Monday in Memphis. He was scheduled for one start on his rehab assignment, and then the Cardinals were going to have to decide what do with the lefthander when the 30 days of his rehab assignment expired May 14.

Wednesday’s diagnosis delays that decision.

“The bottomline is this is not a setback whatsoever,” Mulder’s agent Gregg Clifton said this afternoon. “It’s a hiatus for a week, and then after he’s re-evaluated he’ll be back out there. … Everyone feels a brief rest period will allow him to come back (feeling stronger).”

Mulder is coming off two shoulder surgeries in the past two seasons. The first was a repairing of his labrum and left rotator cuff. The second was needed last September to repatch a section of the rotator cuff that did not heal following the first surgery.

I'm so, so sorry.

I'll cry into my pillow tonight.

After what happened to us in reguards to pitchers I feel badly for him. I hate to see him be done so early.

The bottom line is that it is a setback. Fortunately, I never counted on him to do anything this year.

I feel bad for Mulder. For the Cardinals it's probably better if he doesn't come back as the pixie dust never seemed to help him like it helps most of their other pitchers.

true, that does bear mentioning. before this past offseason i had felt Beane was being a little overrated in comparison to the other great GMs because of the book. but my god, his two trades netted an incredible return.

and am i the only one tired of the phrase "pixie dust"?

It started off well for Mulder in St. Louis. He should have probably won 20 games that first year, since a couple were blown by the bullpen. After his 10 inning complete game against Clemens and the Astros, I thought he was going to be great. But it's all been downhill since then.

It's a shame to see someone that had that type of talent go the way of Mark Prior. I feel bad for the guy, he just can't seem to get healthy.

On the other hand, he is a Cardinal now, so :-({|=

it seems like when it comes to pitching, the cardinals don't do well if they go out and try to get really good pitchers. those guys end up pitching poorly and the todd wellemeyers and braden loopers of the world turn into good pitchers.

Mulder can't stay healthy, Zito sucks.....guess Harden is the only one of that trio of A's pitchers who has done jack squat recently, and he's had his own health problems

Mulder will be back. It's all about the hiatus. Agents know this better than anyone. I wish the Cubs knew about hiatuses--or hiati in the plural form. They were too caught up in simulated games to know.

I've been on hiatus for three years now. It's great!

I feel bad for Mulder. This might wind up being better for the Cards in the long run since they won't have to waste a few ML starts on him to see that he's done.
