Peter Gammons:

Cubs manager Lou Piniella would like to add a left-handed hitting right or center fielder to bat fifth. Milton Bradley and Ken Griffey Jr. seem like long shots though. It's odd that the Rangers wouldn't want to move Bradley.

And then this...

In one of his strongest statements to date on the subject, Reds outfielder Ken Griffey Jr. shared his desire to contend for a championship with USA Today.

In an article published in today's editions, Griffey characterized the Reds' current status as "a tough situation," saying that "we either turn things around or they start getting rid of everybody around here."

they are not trading Lee and moving Soriano to 1b...he would be worse there than in LF

and Griffey would play RF and Kosuke would move to CF everyday

I'd welcome Griffey in RF, if Fukudome can play a solid CF. The one game he was in CF, Fukudome didn't look like a long-term option there.

Griffey looked amazing last year at times but is off to a slow start, if the price was low I would gamble on Griffey staying healthy and starting over in Chicago with Lou . That being said he wouldn't be bad

Well, that would allow the Cubs to shift Soriano to 1B and trade Lee...
Only if we're getting Santana, Peavy, or Webb in return.

Lee makes our entire infield defense better, no doubt.

Would like to add a LH hitting outfielder to bat 5th? Did I miss something? Did Fukudome decide to move back to Japan or something?

Pie is a better total package in CF than Griffey right now.

That might be going a bit crazy with the Pie love. If we could get Griffey cheap enough, Id do it in a heartbeat.

Nope, Pie more than makes up for any possible difference with the bat with his glove. Griffey would be a brutal defensive CF.

I doubt they'd start Griffey in CF is they traded for him.

Griffey is still not a good bet. There's no reason to trade resources for a guy who will not even likely still be in the lineup when the playoffs roll around. Griffey might be an upgrade during the season, he may not. Add that to the huge injury risk and there's just not much reason to consider him, especially when considering that the Reds might trade him, but they aren't likely to give him away for less than 1 or 2 top 15 prospects.

This scenario would move Fukudome to the best possible spot in the order for him....2nd.

Hopefully Lou finally moving Soto up in the order and him continuing to hit will make him forget about needing to use Kosuke as protection for Ramirez. There's a L/R thing to get around, but there's hope.

Oh, and also the whole "Pie with an .800+ OPS since Keller worked with him" bit.

I've posted it before, but heres mgl's rant about how griffey is the worst full time player in baseball and possibly worst in the history of the game.

That's a freaking horrible analysis. I'm a saber guy myself, but this guys application is as dorked up as I think you can get. There's no way Griffey is one of the worst full time starters in the history of the game. I'm by no means a Griffey fan myself, I don't want him on our team. But I don't even have to think hard and I can come up with several examples that I don't think anyone would argue are worse than him. Many of them former Cubs. Neifi, Jeff Blauser anyone?

Thats a pretty hardcore saber retort you just provided there...

And Griffey just scored one in the mgl column in what will most definitely go down as the great saber Griffey debate between Jericho and the #1b guy in all of statistical baseball analysis.
